WWE Survivor Series 2016 Preview

By Brandon Albright, @B_Rock1978

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, brought to you by Triple Threat CLE brings you the WWE Survivor Series Preview.

WWE Survivor Series will take place live at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This year's Survivor Series will be the 30th event to take place, which started out in Richfield, Ohio in its inaugural event. This will also be the first time that Survivor Series has been contested in Canada since the infamous Montreal Screw Job, back in 1997, when Vince McMahon screwed over Bret Hart, to keep him from jumping to WCW while reigning as WWE World Champion. WWE Survivor Series will be live on the WWE Network, but as always if you can't catch the show just follow Triple Threat CLE and I'll have the recap of the pay per view on Monday afternoon.

- Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan Throw Down A Challenge To RAW: Survivor Series has always been known in the past to have 5-on-5 Elimination style matches. Smackdown Live's Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan decided to make it happen again this year, as they threw down a huge challenge to Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley of RAW. Shane and Bryan suggested taking the 5 best men, 5 best tag teams and 5 best women and have three traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series Elimination Matches. Stephanie and Foley loved the idea and immediately accepted the challenge. Both RAW and Smackdown Live would go on to pick their teams and also hold qualifying matches to earn spots on the teams, until all the teams were finalized.

- "RAW vs. Smackdown Live 5-on-5 Men's Elimination Match": Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins (RAW) vs. AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose, Shane McMahon, Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt (Smackdown Live)

- "RAW vs. Smackdown Live 5-on-5 Women's Elimination Match": Charlotte, Nia Jax, Bayley, Alicia Fox and Sasha Banks (RAW) vs. Nikki Bella, Becky Lynch, Naomi, Carmella and Alexa Bliss (Smackdown Live)

- "RAW vs. Smackdown Live 10-on-10 Tag Team Elimination Match": The New Day, Enzo and Big Cass, Sheamus and Cesaro, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson and The Shining Stars (RAW) vs. Heath Slater and Rhyno, The Hype Bros, American Alpha, The Usos and Breezago (Smackdown Live)

- "WWE Intercontinental Championship Match": The Miz (c) (Smackdown Live) vs. Sami Zayn (RAW): Originally it was Dolph Ziggler set to face Sami Zayn one on one for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. One week before WWE Survivor Series, The Miz defeated Dolph Ziggler to become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion and replaced Ziggler in the match. Over on RAW, Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley placed Rusev and Sami Zayn in a one on one match, with the winner earning a WWE Intercontinental Championship Match against originally Dolph Ziggler. Zayn went on to defeat Rusev and earn that spot. Can The Miz retain his newly won title, or will Zayn win the title for his show?

- "WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match": Brian Kendrick (RAW) vs. Kalisto (Smackdown Live): This match was made official two weeks before the pay per view. RAW made an agreement that if Kalisto defeats Kendrick, he'll win the title and the Cruiserweight Division will become a trademark of Smackdown Live only.

- Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg: 12 years ago at Wrestlemania 20, Goldberg had his last official match in the wrestling business as he defeated Brock Lesnar in a one on one match. Goldberg, who originally had no intention of ever returning to WWE, began a working relationship with the WWE again in January 2016, promoting WWE2K17. While promoting the game, Goldberg challenged Brock Lesnar to a match, which escalated to a social media war of words. Goldberg teased a possible return for one last match, while on ESPN and again said he'd love to fight Lesnar. Paul Heyman on behalf of Lesnar, issued a challenge to Goldberg, stating that Goldberg was the one blemish on Lesnar's WWE career and Lesnar wanted another shot anytime, anyplace. The match was officially made for WWE Survivor Series, as both Lesnar and Goldberg agreed to the match. Will Lesnar finally defeat Goldberg and get revenge on his loss from 12 years ago? How will Goldberg do, after not competing in wrestling for the past 12 years? Can Goldberg be THE MAN again and defeat Lesnar?
