Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, brought to you by Triple Threat CLE, brings you the Royal Rumble Recap Edition from last nights show.
This year's Royal Rumble took place at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. Roman Reigns defended his WWE World Heavyweight Championship inside the Royal Rumble against 29 other men in a One vs. All Match. Dean Ambrose defended the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Kevin Owens in a Last Man Standing Match. Charlotte defended the WWE Divas Championship against former friend Becky Lynch. The New Day defended the WWE World Tag Team Championship against The Usos. Alberto Del Rio defended the WWE United States Championship against Kalisto.
*** Royal Rumble Pre-Show ***- League of Nations Promo: Sheamus says he's getting back his WWE World Heavyweight Championship tonight. If not him than someone from the LON will.
- "Fatal Four Way, Tag Team Match, (Winners Get 2 Spots In The Royal Rumble)": The Dudley Boys vs. Mark Henry and Jack Swagger vs. The Ascension vs. Damien Sandow and Darren Young: The match closes out with, The Ascension in control, double teaming Devon and get a near fall in the process. Bubba hot tags in and cleans house on everyone. Bubba and Devon hit Whazz Up on Young and Bubba calls for the tables. Viktor tries to stop the Dudleys but gets a 3D for his effort. Bubba covers Viktor, but Swagger pulls Bubba off, stopping the pinfall. Swagger holds Bubba down as Henry hits a big splash on Bubba and scores the pinfall. After the match, Swagger and Henry shake hands and move on to the Royal Rumble.
Winners: Jack Swagger and Mark Henry, by pinfall, to advance to the Royal Rumble. *** Royal Rumble 2016 ***
- Backstage, the Chairman of the Board Vincent Kennedy McMahon and his daughter Stephanie McMahon arrive by limousine. Vince talks about Roman Reigns' huge title defense tonight and says he loves tonight about as much as he loves himself.....oh and maybe his daughter too.
- "WWE Intercontinental Championship, Last Man Standing Match": Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Kevin Owens:
Highlights in the match: Ambrose tosses Owens over the announcers table and takes out Michael Cole and Cole's IPad. Owens hits a running cannonball on Ambrose that puts both men through the outside barricade. One point in the match Owens unloads kendo stick shots on Ambrose, but Ambrose is up at 8. Owens tries to power bomb Ambrose on a stack of chairs, but Ambrose counters and back body drops Owens on them. Ambrose counters a pop up power bomb with Dirty Deeds, but Owens is up at 8. Ambrose hits Dirty Deeds on a chair, but Owens is up at 9. Ambrose hits the flying elbow and puts Owens through a table. The match closes out with, Ambrose setting up a table in the corner. Ambrose goes for a superplex on Owens, but Owens reverses and puts Ambrose through the table. Ambrose is up at 9, as Owens yells at Ambrose to stay down. Owens hits the pop up power bomb on Ambrose, but Ambrose is up at 9 again.
Owens unloads a chair shot on Ambrose and then stacks up some chairs. Ambrose gets laid out on the chairs as Owens goes to the top rope. Ambrose jumps up and shoves Owens off and through two stacked tables on the floor. Owens is counted out and Ambrose retains the title. After the match, Ambrose celebrates as WWE Medical check on Owens.
Winner: Dean Ambrose, by Knockout, to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship. - "WWE World Tag Team Championship Match": The New Day (c) vs. The Usos: Before the match, The New Day ask for a moment of silence for Francesca, then introduce Francesca 2. Xavier Woods gets involved in the match and drops an Uso with a DDT on the floor, while the referee was distracted. The match closes out with, all four men down in the ring. Everyone is back up, Big E is sent into the ring post, Kofi misses Trouble In Paradise and eats an Uso Kick. Jey hits the Uso Splash and covers, but Woods reaches in and disrupts the pinfall. Jey argues with Woods then takes Woods out with a flying cross body. Big E tosses Jey into the barricade and Kofi gets a near fall roll up on Jimmy. Jimmy takes control and goes for the Uso Splash on Kofi, but Big E blind tagged in. Big E catches Jimmy in mid air, hits the Big Ending and scores the pinfall.
Winners: The New Day, by pinfall, to retain the WWE World Tag Team Championship. - Backstage, Braun Strowman says The Wyatt Family are War. Erick Rowan says they're Pestilence. Luke Harper says they're Famine. Bray Wyatt says they're Death. They are the Four Horsemen and the Apocalypse is here.......RUN!
- "WWE United States Championship Match": Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Kalisto: The match closes out with, Kalisto blocking the cross arm breaker submission. Kalisto with a near fall top rope DDT and a near fall hurricanrana on Del Rio. Del Rio capitalizes on a Kalisto top rope miscue. Del Rio goes to the top rope, but Kalisto crotches Del Rio. Del Rio fights back, catches Kalisto in the tree of woe, but misses the double stomp as Kalisto moves.
Kalisto hits Salida Del Sol, but Del Rio grabs the ropes, breaking the pinfall. Del Rio exposes the turn buckle, but Kalisto lands a stiff kick. Del Rio tosses Kalisto into the exposed turn buckle, but Kalisto reverses and Del Rio eats the exposed buckle. Kalisto hits Salida Del Sol, scores the pinfall and becomes a 2-Time WWE United States Champion.
Winner: Kalisto, by pinfall, to win the WWE United States Championship. - Backstage, Stephanie McMahon tells Paul Heyman that if Brock Lesnar targets Roman Reigns in the Royal Rumble than she'll be open for a negotiation. Heyman says tonight the Roman Empire enters Suplex City.
- "WWE Divas Championship Match": Charlotte (c) vs. Becky Lynch: The match closes out with, Becky blocking the Figure Four and gets a near fall suplex. Becky hits a series of leg drops and another suplex for a near fall. Charlotte blocks the Dis-Arm-Her submission and gets a near fall rollup. Charlotte hits a spear for another near fall on Becky. Charlotte gets frustrated and ends up trapped in the Dis-Arm-Her submission. Charlotte fights for her life and finally escapes by power bombing Becky. Charlotte goes for a baseball slide and accidentally knocks out daddy, Ric Flair. Becky grabs a stunned Charlotte and locks her in the Dis-Arm-Her submission. Charlotte is about to tap out when suddenly Flair throws his jacket in Becky's face making her release the submission. Charlotte capitalizes on the distraction, spears Becky and scores the pinfall.
After the match, Charlotte attacks Becky, until Sasha Banks arrives. Sasha looks like she's about to fight Charlotte, but shakes her hand instead. As Charlotte turns to leave, Sasha hits a Backstabber on Charlotte and locks Charlotte in the Bank Statement submission. Sasha blames Becky Lynch for stealing her spotlight and raises the WWE Divas Championship in the air.
Winner: Charlotte, by pinfall, to retain the WWE Divas Championship. - "Royal Rumble For The WWE World Heavyweight Championship":
*** Highlights In The Rumble ***
- Roman Reigns and Rusev started at #1 and #2.
- AJ Styles makes his WWE debut at #3.
- Tyler Breeze continues to lose his main roster push as he doesn't get much offense in and is quickly eliminated.
- Curtis Axel makes it into the Rumble this time, unlike last year when his spot was stolen by Erick Rowan. Axel was quickly eliminated by Styles.
- Chris Jericho counters a Styles Clash by Styles with the Walls Of Jericho.
- R-Truth makes a fool of himself again as he comes out, grabs a ladder and climbs it thinking it's a Money In The Bank Match, before getting tossed by Kane.
- Kofi Kingston does his usual yearly avoidance of elimination by landing on Big E's shoulders.
- Vince McMahon appears with Rusev, Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio and King Barrett. Vince orders the League of Nations to destroy Reigns and get him out of the match.
- The League of Nations beat the hell out of Reigns, tossing Reigns into the barricade and the steel steps. Rusev runs across the three announcers tables and splashes Reigns through the end announcer table.
- WWE Medical, check on Roman Reigns and decide to take him to the backstage area. Reigns collapses on the Royal Rumble stage and is placed on a stretcher. Reigns shoves away the stretcher and walks to the backstage area.
- Braun Strowman is in and goes toe to toe with Big Show. Strowman chokes out Show and eliminates him.
- Kevin Owens is in and brawls with AJ Styles, giving fans a look at a future five star match.
- Styles goes for a Styles Clash on Neville, but Owens hits a super kick on Styles, tells Styles "Welcome To The WWE" and eliminates Styles. Styles gets a huge ovation from the WWE fans. Please don't screw up Styles career WWE!
- NXT's Sami Zayn appears in the Royal Rumble. Zayn and Owens immediately pick up their feud and brawl. Zayn ends up eliminating a shocked Owens.
- Strowman, Harper and Rowan unite and attack everyone in the Royal Rumble. The Wyatts eliminate Neville, Stardust, Mark Henry and Zayn.
- Brock Lesnar enters and takes everyone to Suplex City. Lesnar german suplexes Rowan, belly to belly suplexes Harper, Lesnar clotheslines Braun and eliminates Rowan. Lesnar lands another german suplex on Harper.
- Jack Swagger is in, gets F5'ed and eliminated by Lesnar.
- Miz comes out and sits at the announcers table and talks trash about Lesnar.
- Lesnar takes more superstars to Suplex City.
- Bray Wyatt arrives and all four Wyatts surround Lesnar. Lesnar survives a Wyatt beat down and unloads on the Wyatts, tossing them all out, except for Bray. Lesnar lays out Bray with an F5. Harper distracts Lesnar allowing Bray to hit Sister Abigail and eliminate Lesnar.
- Miz hits the Skull Crushing Finale on Dolph Ziggler.
- Sheamus heads to the ring and gets attacked from behind by a returning Roman Reigns.
- Reigns Superman Punches Ziggler and Bray.
- Royal Rumble entrant #30 is a returning Triple H, who immediately targets Roman Reigns.
- Triple H pedigrees Ziggler, while Reigns spears Bray. Triple H and Reigns begin brawling.
- Bray counters a Pedigree, Triple H escapes Sister Abigail after Sheamus Brogue Kicks Bray. Triple H and Sheamus dump Bray.
The match closes out with, the final four coming down to Triple H, Sheamus, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose. Reigns hits a Superman Punch on Triple H and Sheamus Brogue Kicks Ambrose. Sheamus misses a Brogue Kick on Reigns and gets tossed to the floor. Triple H sneaks up behind Reigns and eliminates the champion. Triple H ends up on the apron, avoids elimination and back body drops Ambrose to the floor to win the Royal Rumble and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. After the match, Triple H celebrates his 14th World Title win with his wife Stephanie McMahon and father-in-law Vince McMahon to end the show.
Winner: Triple H, to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
