Wrestling Lockup with Brandon 11.30.16: Smackdown Live Columbia Recap

By Brandon Albright, @B_Rock1978

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, brought to you by Triple Threat CLE, brings you the Smackdown Live Recap for the week.

This week Smackdown Live was live in Columbia, South Carolina. Tonight's show served it's go home show to this Sunday's WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs pay per view. Be sure to keep an eye out for my WWE TLC Preview I'll have up for you by Thursday. This week's show kicked off with WWE Smackdown Live Women's Champion Becky Lynch and #1 Contender Alexa Bliss having a contract signing. Dolph Ziggler and Kalisto battled WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz and Baron Corbin in tag team action. Carmella has a message for Nikki Bella's boyfriend John Cena. Dean Ambrose returns with a new edition of The Ambrose Asylum. Kane battled Luke Harper of The Wyatt Family in one on one action. In the main event, American Alpha battled Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton of The Wyatt Family in a #1 Contenders Match.

*** Smackdown Live ***

- WWE Smackdown Live Women's Championship Contract Signing: Alexa accuses Becky of being a coward trying to avoid her and dumb Irish luck and a dumb referee are the only reasons she's still the champ. Becky says Alexa reminds her of her 4 year old cousin, blonde, extremely obsessed with glitter and moan when she doesn't get her way. Becky explains to Alexa how her hard work has earned her a Wrestlemania match, being the first lady drafted on Smackdown Live and being the current WWE Smackdown Live Women's Champion, before finally signing the contract. Alexa says Becky talking makes her sick, life isn't like a Disney movie and there is always someone better than you and in Becky's case, it's Alexa. Alexa tells Becky to eat her Lucky Charms because she'll need them to hold onto her title. Alexa insults how Becky talks which makes Becky finally attack Alexa. Alexa lands some shots, but gets dropped with a Becky exploder suplex. Becky drives shoulder thrusts into Alexa's gut and goes for another exploder on Alexa off the second rope. Alexa shoves Becky off the ropes and Becky crashes through the table in the ring.

- Dolph Ziggler and Kalisto vs. The Miz and Baron Corbin: The match closes out with Miz and Ziggler brawling outside. Miz tosses Ziggler into the barricade and Kalisto hits a suicide dive on Corbin. Ziggler super kicks Miz, but Maryse gets involved and cracks Ziggler in the back with a ladder, while the referee was distracted. Miz gets back in the ring and gets laid out with Salida Del Sol by Kalisto. Corbin grabs a steel chair and hits Kalisto in the back, catching a DQ.
Winners: Dolph Ziggler and Kalisto, by DQ.

- Backstage, American Alpha say that they are ready for Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton tonight and will prove why American Alpha is the premier tag team on SmackDown Live. The Wyatt Family should follow their own advice and RUN!

- The Wyatt Family Promo: Randy Orton says he was blind and naive just like American Alpha, but seen the light, proved at WWE Survivor Series that The Wyatt Family is a threat and will prove it again tonight. Orton asks Luke Harper if he's going to take care of Kane tonight. Bray tells Harper to send Kane back to hell.

- Carmella/Nikki Bella Confrontation: Carmella says she wants to apologize to John Cena now because when Carmella finishes with Nikki Bella at WWE TLC, Nikki's Bella Twins on her chest will be popping out of her back and she's rearranging Nikki's face. Nikki hits the ring and spears Carmella to the mat. Nikki ground and pounds Carmella as a WWE referee tries to step in. Carmella finally escapes and runs backstage.

- The Ambrose Asylum With Dean Ambrose: Ambrose brings out his guest James Ellsworth. Ellsworth can't believe that he's a full time WWE Superstar now, Ellsworth thanks God, the fans and tells Ambrose that if he ever needs anything Ellsworth has his back. Ambrose says his car needs washed, or he could do his laundry. Ambrose knows that Ellsworth is the next #1 Contender to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and is wondering who Ellsworth will be rooting for at WWE TLC. Ellsworth says it would be an honor to fight Ambrose, but Ellsworth has won three straight against AJ Styles.
Styles interrupts and calls Ellsworth nothing but a prop to distract Styles and Ellsworth never would've won three straight if not for Ambrose. Styles promises he'll beat respect out of Ambrose with tables, ladders and chairs and if Ellsworth shows up he'll disfigure his face even more. Ambrose thinks it's funny that Styles is worried about Ellsworth when he needs to be worried about the fact that Ambrose is taking Styles title on Sunday. Styles shoves Ellsworth into Ambrose, tosses Ellsworth into the table, then tosses Ambrose into the steel steps. Styles beats down Ellsworth with a ladder and a steel chair and then hits the Styles Clash on the steel steps.

- Luke Harper vs. Kane: The match closes out with Harper dodging a Kane flying clothesline and plants a super kick for a near fall. Harper goes to the top rope, but Kane cuts him off and hits a superplex. Kane hits the choke slam on Harper and scores the pinfall.
Winner: Kane, by pinfall.

- "#1 Contenders Match": American Alpha vs. The Wyatt Family: The match closes out with Bray getting a near fall Uranage Slam on Jordan. Jordan plants Bray with a german suplex when suddenly the lights go out. The lights pop back on and Luke Harper is at ringside. Gable counters Sister Abigail and he and Jordan go for Grand Amplitude on Bray. Orton hits the RKO on Gable, but gets speared by Jordan. Bray shoves Jordan into the ring post and then hits Sister Abigail to score the pinfall.
Winners: The Wyatt Family, by pinfall, to become the #1 Contenders.

Jericho and Owens make fun of the WWE Universe for giving thanks on Thanksgiving and then trampling each other for crappy flat screen TV's on Black Friday. Owens says he's thankful for many things, but especially for his best friend Chris Jericho. Jericho says he's thankful for Owens, his scarf and for Seth Rollins showing what it means to be a stupid idiot. Jericho says he didn't interfere last week wearing a Sin Cara mask....Sin Cara interfered wearing a Chris Jericho mask. Roman Reigns' music hits and out comes the WWE United States Champion. Reigns calls Owens a joke of a champion that can't win without Jericho. Owens calls Reigns a joke for thinking that he's THE GUY. Jericho threatens to put Reigns on "The List". Owens tells Jericho to shut up cause he's got this. Reigns challenges Owens to a match and if he wins he gets a WWE Universal Championship Match at WWE Roadblock. Owens accepts.

- Backstage, Chris Jericho doesn't understand why Kevin Owens told him to shut up. Owens says because Roman Reigns is right, Jericho always helps Owens, so it seems like Owens can't win on his own. Jericho says he's finished being Owens' friend than. Mick Foley appears and tells Jericho that they still need to address Jericho interfering in the title match last week when he was supposed to be banned from ringside.

- Braun Strowman vs. R-Truth: The match closes out with Strowman squashing Truth with a clothesline, a corner splash and the running power slam for the pinfall. After the match, Strowman chokes out Goldust until Sami Zayn hits the ring. Strowman lays out Zayn with the C-4 and then puts Zayn in a tree of woe. WWE Officials and Mick Foley hit the ring and order Strowman to stop.
Winner: Braun Strowman, by pinfall.

- Sami Zayn Snaps On Mick Foley: After the Braun Strowman attack, Zayn starts yelling at Foley for stopping him from attacking Strowman and how he doesn't need saved from Strowman. Browns Recap 11.28.16: New York Giants @ Cleveland Browns

By Katelin Marshall, @KatelinKnowsCLE

The Cleveland Browns are now 0-12 after losing to the Giants 27-13. This game was an odd game. The defense played well for most of the game but seemed to have run out of gas at the end.  But the offense struggled all game only managing 13 points, turning the ball over three times and allowing Josh McCown to be sacked seven times.

Browns Offense

The Browns out-gained the Giants 343 yards to 296 and won the time of possession by almost eight minutes, but the three turnovers really hurt the Browns. Two of the three turnovers resulted in touchdowns for the Giants including a fumble that was returned for a touchdown by Jason Pierre-Paul.

Josh McCown played like he usually does. Keeps the team in the game but makes a mistake at an important moment. McCown was 25/43 for 322 yards, a touchdown, and two fumbles (including the one that was returned for a score.) That fumble was a rally killer considering a few plays before that McCown found Terrelle Pryor deep for 54 yards.

The running game was held to 58 yards on 21 carries. Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson couldn't get anything going, both only averaged 2.8 yards per carry. But both did play well in the passing game. Crowell had six catches for 47 yards and Johnson had three catches for 26 yards. *Crowell had a fumble which resulted in the other score. That was Crowell's first fumble since 2014.

The passing game was average. It seemed like the Browns wideouts couldn't get separation for the Giants DBs. Terrelle Pryor was the Browns leading receiver with six catches for 131 yards. *Pryor's third 100+ yards game this year. Also first Browns player to have five + catches in five straight games since Kevin Johnson.  Outside of Pryor the passing game was headlined by rookies. Corey Coleman and Seth DeValve had three catches each. And one of Coleman's receptions was a 21-yard catch for a touchdown. Rashard "Hollywood" Higgins caught two passes for 34 yards.

The offense struggled but it was nice to see the rookies play well and show some growth. Terrelle Pryor was the offensive MVP for the Browns today. The guy show a will to win and does as much as he can to keep this team in games offensively.

Defense

The defense didn't play bad but they couldn't force any turnovers. (The one turnover by the Giants was on special teams) Eli Manning only threw for 194 yards on 15/27 passing, but he did throw three touchdowns. Two of them were to Odell Beckham Jr. who had six catches for 96 yards. Outside of Beckham the Giants leading receiver was Victor Cruz who had a catch for 37 yards. Three guys had two catches each which was is tied for the team lead.  The Giants running game was solid totaling 104 yards on 27 carries. Rashad Jennings was the leading rusher with 55 yards on 15 rushes.

Today the young guys showed up for the Browns, not just on offense but defensively too. Christian Kirksey was all over the field racking up 11 tackles including one tackle for a loss. Briean Boddy-Calhoun played extremely well too. Matching up against Victor Cruz and Rodger Lewis most of the game. Boddy-Calhoun had four tackles including one for a loss and two pass deflections. Danny Shelton is another young defensive player who played extremely well. He set the line of scrimmage really well, played the run game well, and overall set a great tone for this game.

Special Teams got lucky twice. Beckham Jr. had two punt returns returned for big yardage, including one that was returned for a touchdown, but they were cancelled out by flags on the play. Other than that the coverage team didn't play that well. Yes, they recovered a fumble but it was because of the returner Bobby Rainey.

Overall Thoughts

The Browns played well enough to win this game but they came up just short, once again. It will be interesting to see how they play when Robert Griffin III gets back under center. But the rookies and young guys played really well and it should be something they can build upon going into the bye-week and the stretch run.

Most Valuable Brown: Two players get the MVB this week. Terrelle Pryor and Christian Kirksey. Both have shown immense growth from the beginning of the year and this game showed off their growth. Kirksey with 11 tackles and Pryor with his third 100+ yard game of the year. Both are making an argument to be named pro-bowlers at their respected positions.

*** WWE ***

- Survivor Series: If you missed WWE Survivor Series last Sunday, be sure to check out my recap of the show and see if RAW or Smackdown Live came out victorious.

- Shane McMahon Update: This past Sunday at WWE Survivor Series, the Commissioner of Smackdown Live, Shane McMahon, suffered a concussion during the men's 5-on-5 match. Shane was attempting a coast to coast drop kick, but ended up getting speared in mid-air by Roman Reigns. The blow from the spear and the contact from hitting the canvas is what caused the legit injury. Props to the referee for immediately noticing something was wrong and props to Randy Orton, who broke character and told Shane's kids who were sitting at ringside that their dad was ok.

- Goldberg Signed For Royal Rumble: This past Monday on RAW, Goldberg officially announced that he will enter the 2017 Royal Rumble in January and is setting his sights on one last WWE World Title run.

- Goldberg's Future: As of right now the WWE is seriously looking at Goldberg not only competing at the WWE Royal Rumble, but also competing at Wrestlemania 33. It stands at this moment that it'll be Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg 3 at Wrestlemania 33 unless plans change from now until then.

- Ronda Rousey Rumors: WWE still have their sights set on landing UFC's Ronda Rousey to a WWE contract. WWE currently want to bring Rousey in to work Wrestlemania 33 and face the current WWE RAW Women's Champion Charlotte. No word on if this will actually happen as of yet.

- Conor McGregor Rumors: Last week, Triple H made the comment that he would love to see McGregor come over to WWE and make a special appearance. This week Conor McGregor's agent stated that depending on how many Benjamin's the WWE are willing to throw at McGregor will determine whether or not McGregor would "entertain" us.

*** NXT ***

- New Champions Crowned: If you missed NXT Takeover: Toronto last weekend, be sure to head back and read my recap of the show. Check out just how Samoa Joe became a 2 time NXT World Champion and check out how Gargano and Ciampa became NXT World Tag Team Champions.
