WWE Extreme Rules took place live at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Roman Reigns, defended the championship against AJ Styles, in an Extreme Rules Match. The Miz defended the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Cesaro, in a Fatal Four Way Match. Kalisto defended the WWE United States Championship against Rusev. The New Day defended the WWE World Tag Team Championship against The Vaudevillains. Charlotte defended the WWE Women's Championship against Nattie Neidhart, in a Submission Match. Dean Ambrose introduces the first ever Asylum Match and goes one on one against Chris Jericho. The Usos battled Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, in a Texas Tornado Tag Team Match. Dolph Ziggler looked to settle things with Baron Corbin in a No DQ Match.

- The Dudley Boys Promo: Devon says what would Extreme Rules be without The Dudley Boys. Bubba says he and Devon have been in more extreme matches than anyone in the locker room, remember ECW? Bubba says ECW died when the Dudleys left, the new era talent that has begun will end up in the toilet and they are above extreme now. Big Cass' music hits and he interrupts the Dudleys. Big Cass says the new era stars will be better in front of millions of people then what the Dudleys were in bingo halls. Cass continues to run down the Dudleys until the Dudleys attack and 2-on-1 Cass. Cass gets back to his feet and dodges a Bubba clothesline, causing Bubba to hit Devon. Cass lands a big boot on Bubba and plants Devon with the East River Crossing. The Dudleys retreat and Cass calls them S-A-W-F-T SAAAWWFFTTT. - "No DQ Match": Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin: The match closes out with Ziggler getting dropped across the top rope by Corbin. Ziggler comes back with a drop kick and an elbow drop on Corbin for a near fall. Corbin catches Ziggler and hits the Deep Six, but Ziggler kicks out at two. Ziggler counters Corbin and plants him with a DDT. Corbin is up, but Ziggler puts him back down with the Fameasser for a near fall. Ziggler unloads a series of punches, elbows and head butts on Corbin. Ziggler goes for the super kick, but Corbin dodges it and lands a lethal low blow on Ziggler. Ziggler goes down and Corbin finishes Ziggler with End Of Days for the pinfall.Winner: Baron Corbin, by pinfall.

- "Texas Tornado Tag Team Match": The Usos vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson: The match closes out with Anderson hitting a knee on Jey and then tosses him into a Gallows big boot for a near fall. The Usos regain control and go to the top rope for double Uso Splashes. Anderson is up and shoves one Uso off the ropes, as the other Uso misses a corkscrew on Gallows. Gallows gets planted with a Samoan Drop by Jey, as Anderson takes out Jimmy and gets a near fall. Anderson charges full steam towards Jimmy on the floor, but eats a big Uso Super Kick. Jimmy hits the Rikishi Splash on Anderson into the barricade, but Gallows makes the save and drops Jimmy on the floor. Gallows tosses Uso over the barricade and into the front row of the crowd. Gallows grabs the ring bell, gets back in the ring with it, but eats another Uso Super Kick. Jey goes for the Uso Splash from the top rope, but Gallows moves and Jey splashes the ring bell instead. Jey is hurt bad from the ring bell as Anderson hits the Magic Killer and scores the pinfall.Winners: Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, by pinfall. - "WWE United States Championship Match": Kalisto (c) vs. Rusev: The match closes out with Kalisto rolling through on a springboard and tosses Rusev to the floor. Kalisto sends Rusev into the steel steps, then back to the ring. Kalisto lands a springboard on Rusev and gets a near fall. Kalisto goes to the top rope, flies at Rusev, but gets caught and slammed back first on the apron. The referee tries to back Rusev off as WWE medical check on Kalisto. Rusev interferes and drags Kalisto across the ring. Rusev unloads stomps on Kalisto's back, again forcing the referee to back off Rusev to check on Kalisto. Rusev interferes again, lands another stomp on Kalisto's back and then applies The Accolade submission. Kalisto has no choice but to submit, giving Rusev the championship. After the match, Rusev celebrates with the championship as WWE medical check on Kalisto.
Winner: Rusev, by submission, to win the WWE United States Championship. - "WWE World Tag Team Championship Match: The New Day (c) vs. The Vaudevillains: The match closes out with Big E catching a knee from English as he was going for a spear. Big E goes for the Big Ending, but Gotch stops it. Big E gets sent into the steel steps outside. English and Gotch hit the Whirling Dervish on Woods and get a near fall. Woods is back up and tries to fight off English and Gotch. Big E is back in and spears English off the apron and to the floor. The referee gets distracted allowing Kofi to sneak in and hit Trouble In Paradise on Gotch, giving New Day the pinfall victory.
Winners: The New Day, by pinfall, to retain the WWE World Tag Team Championship.
- Backstage, AJ Styles says he's winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship no matter what it takes.
- "WWE Intercontinental Championship, Fatal 4 Way Match: The Miz (c) vs. Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro vs. Sami Zayn: The match closes out with Cesaro hitting a Neutralizer on Owens, but Sami breaks up the pin. Cesaro blocks Zayn's Helluva Kick with an uppercut. Zayn hits an exploder suplex on Cesaro and goes for another Helluva Kick. Owens interrupts with a super kick on Zayn and a pop up power bomb on Cesaro. Owens sends Miz into the barricade and then argues with Maryse. Miz hits the Skull Crushing Finale on Cesaro for a near fall. Cesaro sends Miz to the floor, but gets nailed with a Helluva Kick from Zayn. Owens pulls Zayn outside, stopping him from pinning Cesaro. Miz gets back in, covers and scores the pinfall on Cesaro.Winner: The Miz, by pinfall, to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship. - "The Asylum Match": Chris Jericho vs. Dean Ambrose: Match Highlights: Jericho and Ambrose climb the cage, both reach for a mop until Ambrose comes down with it and unloads mop shots on Jericho. Jericho swings a 2x4 wrapped in barbed wire at Ambrose, but Ambrose ducks and hits Jericho with nunchakus. Jericho climbed the cage and beat Ambrose with kendo stick shots up top. Jericho unloads nunchaku shots and a whips Ambrose with a strap. Ambrose ends up with the strap and returns the favor. Ambrose uses a fire extinguisher, but Jericho blocks by holding up a straight jacket. One point Jericho tries to tie up Ambrose in the straight jacket, but Ambrose returns offense. Ambrose flies off the top of the cage, hits an elbow on Jericho and then brings down a mop bucket full of thumb tacks. Jericho and Ambrose both counter being dropped on the tacks. Ambrose blocks the Walls of Jericho, but Jericho sends Ambrose face first into the steel. Jericho goes for a Lionsault, but Ambrose gets his knees up. Ambrose goes for Dirty Deeds on the tacks, but Jericho counters and gets the Walls of Jericho applied. The match closes out with Ambrose unloading kendo stick shots, climbs the cage and goes for a flying kendo stick/elbow drop combo. Jericho counters by spraying the fire extinguisher at Ambrose in mid air. Jericho hits the Code Breaker, but Ambrose kicks out at two. Jericho hits Ambrose in the gut and across the back with the barbed wire 2x4. Ambrose counters another Code Breaker and slams Jericho right on the thumb tacks. Ambrose hits Dirty Deeds on Jericho into the thumb tacks and scores the pinfall.
Winner: Dean Ambrose, by pinfall. - "WWE Women's Championship, Submission Match" (Ric Flair Is Banned From Ringside): Charlotte (c) vs. Nattie Neidhart: The match closes out with Charlotte working over Nattie's leg and applying submission holds. Charlotte hits a moonsault on Nattie and applies a half crab submission. Nattie escapes and hits a german suplex on Charlotte. Nattie locks in the Sharpshooter submission and applies the pressure. Ric Flair's music suddenly starts playing and someone in a Ric Flair robe walks out backwards. It's revealed to be Dana Brooke as she distracts Nattie on the apron. Charlotte hits Nattie from behind, applies the Figure Eight submission and forces Nattie to tap out. After the match, Ric Flair comes out to celebrate with Dana and Charlotte. Dana kicks Nattie and tells her to get out of the ring. Dana struts and dances with Flair as Charlotte raises the title.
Winner: Charlotte, by submission, to retain the WWE Women's Championship. - "WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Extreme Rules Match": Roman Reigns (c) vs. AJ Styles: Match Highlights: Styles sends Reigns into the announcers table and over the barricade. Styles and Reigns fight through the crowd and over into the pre-show area. Styles gets slammed on a glass table, but Styles comes back with the Phenomenal Forearm off the table. Reigns counters a Styles Clash right on the concrete floor with some punches. Later in the match, Styles goes for another Styles Clash on the announcers table, but Reigns counters again with punches. Styles gets knocked into the crowd over the barricade. Styles leaps onto the announcers table at Reigns, but Reigns back body drops Styles through a second announcers table.Back and forth in the ring and then back out to the floor where Reigns tosses Styles into the ring post and then power bombs Styles through the announcers table. Reigns misses a spear and kisses the barricade instead. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson hit the ring and beat down Reigns at mid point in the match. The Usos follow and we have a six man brawl break out. The match closes out with Styles taking an Uso Splash and Reigns gets a near fall. Anderson and Gallows take out The Usos, but Reigns hits The Club with Superman Punches. Styles blocks the spear, lands a kick and the Styles Clash on Reigns for a near fall. Styles blocks a Superman Punch with the Pele Kick and hits the Styles Clash on Reigns on a steel chair for another near fall.Styles unloads steel chair shots on Reigns and both Usos. Styles measures Reigns and goes for the Phenomenal Forearm, but Reigns catches Styles in mid air with the spear, covers and scores the pinfall. After the match, Reigns celebrates, but gets attacked from behind by the returning Seth Rollins. Rollins plants Reigns with the Pedigree Rollins stands over Reigns holding the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, the title that Rollins never lost to end the show.
Winner: Roman Reigns, by pinfall, to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
