Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, 3.18.16: #NXT & SmackDown

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, brought to you by Triple Threat CLE, is here with your NXT Recap Edition.

This week's NXT took place at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida. Sami Zayn gets a huge announcement about who he's facing at NXT Takeover: Dallas. The Hype Brothers, Mojo Rawley and Zack Ryder were in tag team action. Emma took on Deonna Purrazzo in one on one women's division action. Tommaso Ciampa battled Jessie Sorensen in a one on one match. NXT Women's Champion, Bayley, teamed with Asuka and faced Eva Marie and Nia Jax in women's division tag team action. In the main event, Jason Jordan and Chad Gable battled The Vaudevillains in a #1 Contenders match for a shot at Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson and the NXT World Tag Team Championship.

- Sami Zayn Promo: Sami Zayn kicks off NXT in the ring. Zayn talks about his match last week against Samoa Joe and how he came really close to becoming the #1 Contender to Finn Balor's NXT World Title. Zayn thinks that he should be getting something special coming his way soon for his effort and gets interrupted by NXT GM William Regal. Regal agrees that Zayn should get something special. Regal announces that at NXT Takeover: Dallas, Sami Zayn will face former NJPW wrestler and newest NXT superstar, Shinsuke Nakamura.

- The Hype Brothers vs. Kenneth Crawford and Angelo Dawkins: The Hype Brothers dominate most of the match with Crawford and Dawkins getting limited offense. The match closes out with, Mojo hot tagging in and cleans house. Mojo and Ryder hit their double team Hype Ryder to score the pinfall.
Winners: The Hype Brothers, by pinfall.

- Backstage, Deonna Purrazzo gets confronted by Emma and Dana Brooke. Emma and Dana make fun of Deonna, but Deonna says she's going to stop Emma. Deonna gets patted on the head like a kid and Emma and Dana walk away.

- Deonna Purrazzo vs. Emma: The match closes out with, Emma putting Deonna in a tree of woe and unloading kicks on Deonna. Emma hits the Emma-Mite-Sandwich, but Deonna is able to rebound with some offense. Emma slows down Deonna and applies the Emma Lock submission, forcing Deonna to tap out.
Winner: Emma, by submission.

- Tommaso Ciampa vs. Jessie Sorensen: The match closes out with, Ciampa hitting a dropkick, a series of knees and a clothesline on Sorensen for a near fall. Sorensen hits a drop kick on Ciampa, but Ciampa sends Sorensen into the turnbuckle and drilled with a knee. Ciampa locks Sorensen in the Fujiwara Armbar submission and forces Sorensen to tap out.
Winner: Tommaso Ciampa, by submission.

- Bayley and Asuka vs. Eva Marie and Nia Jax: The match closes out with, Eva getting a shot in on Asuka as Bayley tags in. Bayley suplexes Eva as Nia comes in and goes for the leg drop. Nia misses and accidentally hits Eva instead. Nia gets drop kicked and Asuka unloads a kick on Eva. Bayley hits the Bayley To Belly on Eva and scores the pinfall. After the match, NXT GM William Regal announces that Bayley will defend the NXT Women's Championship at NXT Takeover: Dallas against Asuka.
Winners: Bayley and Asuka, by pinfall.

- Backstage, Austin Aries says he always knew he wanted to come to the WWE, hypes up his match against Baron Corbin at NXT Takeover: Dallas, says he earned the contract he was given and not just handed one like Baron Corbin.

- "#1 Contenders Match": Jason Jordan and Chad Gable vs. The Vaudevillains: The match closes out with, Gable getting double teamed in the corner until finally tagging in Jordan. Jordan comes in and hits a series of suplexes on Gotch and English. Jordan gets pulled out to the floor as Gable hits a german suplex on English. Jordan hits a belly to belly suplex on Gotch right on the floor. English hits a power bomb on Gable inside the ring and gets a near fall. Jordan and Gable double team English and hit the double team Grand Amplitude finisher to score the pinfall.
Winners: Jason Jordan and Chad Gable, by pinfall, becoming the new #1 Contenders to the NXT World Tag Team Championship.

- This closed out this week's NXT.

This week's Smackdown took place in Cincinnati, Ohio. Roman Reigns returns after viciously attacking the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Triple H, on RAW. Dolph Ziggler battled The Miz in a one on one match. Bubba Ray Dudley battled Goldust in a one on one match. Charlotte calls out Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch for a talk, before their Wrestlemania triple threat match for the WWE Divas Championship. Kofi Kingston of The New Day took on King Barrett of the League of Nations. Dean Ambrose sends a message to his Wrestlemania opponent, Brock Lesnar. Kevin Owens took on AJ Styles in this week's main event.

*** Smackdown ***

- Roman Reigns Promo: Reigns says that he showed what happens when people run their mouth on RAW, Triple H believes in power and money, but Reigns believes in the big fight and in a big fight Reigns will knock Triple H into next week. Reigns guarantees that he's beating Triple H's ass at Wrestlemania and leaving the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion and Triple H can believe that.

- Backstage, AJ Styles says Chris Jericho's excuses are ridiculous, the WWE Universe can cheer for whoever they want and Jericho made things personal. Kevin Owens interrupts and says Styles reminds him of Sami Zayn, they both should have their own show and cry together. Styles says Owens reminds him of Jericho, smug, arrogant and a jackass. Owens meets Styles later tonight and Styles dares Owens to put his money where his mouth is.

- Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz: The match closes out with, Ziggler hitting a back elbow, a series of flying clotheslines, a corner splash into a neck breaker and a slam on Miz for a near fall. Miz counters the Famasser and gets a near fall roll up on Ziggler. Ziggler counters the Skull Crushing Finale and arm drags Miz to the mat. Miz traps Ziggler in the Figure Four Leg lock submission, but Ziggler makes it to the ropes. Ziggler pops Miz out of nowhere with a super kick and scores the pinfall.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler, by pinfall.

- Dean Ambrose Segment: Dean Ambrose is shown standing on a hill looking at his hometown skyline of Cincinnati. Ambrose says Brock Lesnar has trained to fight his entire life, but living in Cincinnati you train to survive. Ambrose says he learned a lot of life's lessons growing up in Cincinnati and plans on teaching that to Lesnar at Wrestlemania.

- Bubba Ray Dudley vs. Goldust: The match closes out with, Goldust countering the Bionic Elbow with an uppercut, a clothesline, ten corner punches and a running bulldog for a near fall. Devon tries to get involved, but gets punched by Goldust. Bubba catches Goldust during the distraction and scores the pinfall. After the match, the Dudley's  beat down Goldust, until R-Truth comes out for the save. Truth gets dropped by Bubba and out come The Usos for the save. The Usos and Dudleys brawl until the Dudleys finally retreat.
Winner: Bubba Ray Dudley, by pinfall.

- Charlotte Promo: Charlotte says she's known Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch most of her adult life and gives them credit for helping her get to where she is today. Charlotte invites them both out to talk and Becky Lynch comes out first. Becky says she doesn't do the best friend thing anymore and guarantees she's taking the Divas Title at Wrestlemania. Sasha Banks comes out next and says she's not on Charlotte's schedule. Charlotte says she remembers when Ric Flair compared the three of them to being the female version of the Horsemen because Charlotte thought they were great. Charlotte apologizes because now she knows she was wrong about them and was embarrassed for putting them in the same sentence as horsemen. Becky says Charlotte threw away all her human decency and promises to rip Charlotte's arm off and win the Divas Championship. Sasha reminds Charlotte that she beat her for the NXT Women's Championship, is still undefeated on the main roster and is more worthy of the title then Becky. Becky tells Sasha it takes more then an ego and dollar store jewelry to be a "boss". Becky and Sasha shove each other and then beat down Charlotte together. Becky hits the exploder suplex on Charlotte and Sasha locks Charlotte in the Bank Statement.

- Kofi Kingston vs. King Barrett: The match closes out with, Kofi hitting Barrett with a back elbow, a boot, a springboard cross body for a near fall and a DDT for another near fall. Kofi goes for Trouble In Paradise, but Alberto Del Rio jumps on the apron for the distraction. Del Rio tosses Woods into the barricade and then Del Rio, Rusev and Sheamus beat down Big E. The LON all jump on the apron and distract Kofi. Woods and Big E attack Del Rio and Rusev and Kofi boots Sheamus. Kofi dodges a Barrett Bullhammer and scores the roll up pinfall.
Winner: Kofi Kingston, by pinfall.

- Dean Ambrose Segment: Ambrose is now in a bar in Cincinnati. Ambrose says that being in this bar reminds him of fights he won and lost growing up. What matters is fighting for what you believe in. Brock Lesnar doesn't know what true pain is and Ambrose is bringing a Cincinnati fight to him at Wrestlemania.

- The Social Outcasts Promo: Heath Slater says the WWE Universe are looking at top grade talent. Bo Dallas says that at Wrestlemania the Social Outcasts will be the first team to ever win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Slater says he's winning it. Curtis Axel says he has the experience as he was never eliminated from the 2015 Royal Rumble. Adam Rose says he's sick of hearing Axel always bringing that up. Axel and Rose bicker back and forth when suddenly Dean Ambrose hits the ring with a kendo stick and unloads stick shots, taking out the whole group. After clearing the ring, Ambrose says he's calling out Brock Lesnar next week on Smackdown.

- AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens: The match closes out with, Owens going for the pop up power bomb, but Styles counters with the Pele Kick. Styles goes to the top rope, but Owens lands a forearm. Styles with a headbutt and a stunner on Owens. Styles goes for the springboard forearm, but Chris Jericho hits the ring and distracts Styles. Owens hits a running boot followed by the pop up powerbomb on Styles to score the pinfall. After the match, Jericho stalks Styles and hits the Code Breaker as Styles got to his feet. Jericho grabs a microphone and mocks Styles and the WWE Universe by chanting "AJ Styles".
Winner: Kevin Owens, by pinfall.



- This ended this week's Smackdown.
