WWE SummerSlam 2016 Recap #SummerSlam #WWE

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, brought to you by Triple Threat CLE brings you the WWE Summer Slam 2016 Recap from last night's show. Summer Slam took place live at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Summer Slam was part two of a huge WWE weekend in New York City as NXT Takeover kicked things off on Saturday night for part one. This year's Summer Slam had a jam packed thirteen match card lined up, a mass of celebrities, all the major titles on the line, the crowning of the first ever WWE Universal Champion and for the second year in a row, Jon Stewart served as special guest host.

** Summer Slam Pre-Show **

- "12 Man Tag Team Match": The Vaudevillains, The Ascension and Breezango vs. The Hype Bros., The Usos and American Alpha: The match closes out with Mojo power bombing Breeze and Viktor and Ryder follows with the El-Bro Drop. The Usos and The Ascension begin to brawl, as Gable dump a few outside. The Ascension go for a double suplex on Gable, but The Usos hit double Uso Kicks. The Usos charge and hit double suicide dives out to the floor. Gotch attacks Gable, but gets speared by Jordan. Jordan and Gable hit Grand Amplitude on Gotch, by an Uso tags himself in. Uso with an Uso Splash and scores the pinfall. After the match, The Usos and American Alpha look to be upset with each other and with the way The Usos stole the pinfall.
Winners: The Usos, American Alpha and The Hype Bros., by pinfall.

- Baron Corbin says he was supposed to fight Kalisto tonight, but Kalisto begged the doctors to not clear him. Corbin threatens to end Kalisto's career for costing him money tonight.

- The Dudley Boys vs. Sami Zayn and Neville: The match closes out with The Dudleys in full control of Neville. Bubba misses a charge on Neville and Neville hot tags Zayn in. Zayn hits the Blue Thunder Bomb on Devon and covers, but Bubba interrupts the pinfall. Bubba tags in, but Zayn unloads on both Dudleys. Zayn gets slammed by Bubba for a near fall. Neville comes in to help Zayn and Bubba goes after Neville. Bubba accidentally clotheslines Devon and takes Devon out. Zayn hits the Helluva Kick on Bubba and Neville hits the Red Arrow to score the pinfall.
Winners: Sami Zayn and Neville, by pinfall.

- "Best of 7 Series, Match #1": Cesaro vs. Sheamus: The match closes out with Cesaro landing a suplex, but Sheamus blocks the Cesaro Swing and gets a near fall rollup. Sheamus counters The Neutralizer and gets a near fall with White Noise. Sheamus unloads on Cesaro and them hits a rolling senton for a near fall. Sheamus misses the Brogue Kick and Cesaro connects with a boot and a clothesline for a near fall. Cesaro swings Sheamus in the Cesaro Swing and then applies the Sharpshooter submission. Sheamus escapes by making the ropes and the match continues. Sheamus and Cesaro trade shots until Sheamus pokes Cesaro in the eye. Sheamus sends Cesaro into the turnbuckle and then hits the Brogue Kick to score the pinfall.
Winner: Sheamus, by pinfall, to lead 1-0.  

** Summer Slam 2016 **

- Enzo and Big Cass vs. Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho: The match closes out with Owens hitting a frog splash on Enzo for a near fall. Owens misses the cannon ball and Enzo tags in Cass. Cass unloads on Owens and Jericho and then hits the Empire Elbow on Jericho. Jericho goes to the top rope, but eats a Cass boot on the way down.
Enzo and Cass go for the Rocket Launcher on Jericho, but Owens stops it. Cass and Owens brawl outside where Cass gets sent into the ring post. Owens hits a cannon ball on Cass, crushing him into the barricade. Enzo hits Jericho with a top rope DDT, covers Jericho, but Owens makes the save. Enzo unloads on Owens, but Owens shoves Enzo toward Jericho, who drops Enzo with the Code Breaker. Jericho covers and scores the pinfall.
Winners: Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho, by pinfall.

- Backstage, Jon Stewart tells Mick Foley, Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon that he loves the brand split, but Stephanie McMahon abuses her power. Stephanie interrupts and says there's no point in having power unless you abuse it. The New Day interrupt with Booty O cereal and announce that they feel the power of positivity.

- WWE Women's Championship Match": Sasha Banks (c) vs. Charlotte: The match closes out with Charlotte blocking the Backstabber and drops Sasha with Natural Selection. Sasha catches Charlotte after and locks in the Banks Statement submission. Charlotte reaches for the ropes, but Sasha pulls her back and reapplies the submission. Charlotte finally escapes and hits a neck breaker on Sasha. Charlotte goes after Sasha's knee and hits Natural Selection for a near fall. Charlotte keeps going for pinfalls, Sasha keeps kicking out and Charlotte gets frustrated. Sasha counters a tilt a whirl and traps Charlotte in a cross face submission. Charlotte counters out, rolls up Sasha and scores the surprise pinfall.
Winner: Charlotte, by pinfall, to win the WWE Women's Championship.

- Backstage, AJ Styles and The Club reunite. Finn Balor walks by and The Club try to get him to give them the "too sweet" hand sign. Balor ignores them and walks past.

- "WWE Intercontinental Championship Match": The Miz (c) vs. Apollo Crews: The match closes out with Crews hitting an enziguri, but misses a moonsault. Miz connects with the charging corner clothesline, but Crews comes back with a suplex. Crews gets a near fall on Miz with the standing moonsault. Miz tries to escape as he runs to the floor, but Crews brings him back into the ring. Maryse distracts Crews allowing Miz to hook the Skull Crushing Finale. Crews blocks, but Miz counters the block, hits the Skull Crushing Finale and scores the pinfall. After the match, Miz and Maryse make out.
Winner: The Miz, by pinfall, to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

- AJ Styles vs. John Cena: The match closes out with Cena going to the top rope and hitting the leg drop on Styles for a near fall. Styles hits a hurricanrana and the Phenomenal Forearm on Cena for a near fall. Cena hits a clothesline on Styles and goes for a Super AA off the second rope. Styles tries to fight it off, but Cena hits it for a near fall. Cena is stunned that Styles kicked out of the Super AA as he stares down Styles. Cena goes for another AA, Styles counters and hits the Styles Clash, but can't make the pinfall.
Styles rolls to the apron and hits Cena with the Phenomenal Forearm, covers and pins Cena clean. After the match, the referee checks on Cena. Cena takes off one of his arm bands, leaves it in the ring and walks out.
Winner: AJ Styles, by pinfall.

- Jon Stewart Promo: Stewart hypes up how great the Cena vs. Styles match was, Stewart jokes about hitting Cena with a steel chair last year, announces he's been chosen as an honorary member of The New Day and introduces them to the ring. 

- "WWE World Tag Team Championship Match": The New Day (c) vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson: The match closes out with Gallows landing a boot on Kofi and then unloads on Kofi. Woods and Anderson brawl, Woods unloads and plants a drop kick on Anderson for a near fall. Jon Stewart tries to get involved, but Gallows and Anderson warn Stewart to back off. Gallows and Anderson grab Stewart and go to crotch him into the ring post. Big E returns and hits the ring. Big E takes out Anderson and then belly to belly suplexes Gallows, causing a DQ. After the match, Big E lays down the whooping on The Club and clears the ring. The New Day and Jon Stewart dance and celebrate.
Winners: Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, by DQ. The New Day retain the WWE World Tag Team Championship.

- "WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match": Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler: The match closes out with both Ambrose and Ziggler falling to the floor. Ziggler hits a super kick on Ambrose and gets a near fall. Ambrose and Ziggler counter holds until Ziggler hits the Zig Zag for a near fall, after countering Dirty Deeds. Ambrose unloads on Ziggler and goes to the top rope. Ziggler gets up and crotches Ambrose on the ropes. Ziggler goes for a super plex, but Ambrose unloads head butts on Ziggler. Ziggler returns to the top rope and trades shots with Ambrose.  Ambrose counters a Ziggler move and hits Dirty Deeds out of nowhere to score the pinfall.
Winner: Dean Ambrose, by pinfall, to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

- "Six Woman Tag Team Match": Alexa Bliss, Nattie Neidhart and ???? vs. Carmella, Naomi and Becky Lynch: Nikki Bella returns from her neck surgery and replaces the suspended Eva Marie in the match. The match closes out with Nattie getting a near fall power slam on Carmella. Nikki hits a snap suplex on Carmella and follows that with a spine buster. Alexa tags in, hits a series of knee drops on Carmella and gets a near fall. Nattie tags in and unloads on Carmella.
Carmella finally hot tags Becky in and she unloads on Nattie. Carmella is back in, but so is Nikki, who takes control of Carmela. Nikki hits the TKO on Carmella and scores the pinfall.
Winners: Nikki Bella, Alexa Bliss and Nattie Neidhart, by pinfall.

- Backstage, Rusev says he is the greatest WWE United States Champion ever and will crush Roman Reigns.

- Hip Hop Artists Wale and Fabolous are shown in the crowd. 

- "WWE Universal Championship Match": Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor: Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon are at ringside with the new championship that looks just like the WWE World Heavyweight Championship except it has a red background instead of a black one. The match closes out with Rollins countering 1916 with a knee to Balor. Rollins dodges the double foot stomp from the top rope and traps Balor in a triangle choke submission. Balor finally escapes, but gets hit with the turnbuckle power bomb by Rollins and a super kick for a near fall. Balor knocks Rollins off the top rope, connects with a stomp and gets a near fall. Rollins dodges the double foot stomp again and hits the Pedigree on Balor for a near fall.
Balor drop kicks Rollins into the corner, but Rollins hits a super plex off the ropes on Balor and then goes for the Pedigree. Balor counters and lands a stomp on Rollins. Balor hits two drop kicks into the corner on Rollins, hits the double stomp off the top rope and scores the pinfall. After the match, Balor takes his newly won WWE Universal Championship from Foley and Stephanie and celebrates.
Winner: Finn Balor, by pinfall, to become the first ever WWE Universal Champion.

- "WWE United States Championship Match": Rusev (c) vs. Roman Reigns: Rusev attacks Reigns outside the ring and tosses Reigns into the barricade. Reigns hits Rusev with a Superman Punch and both men unload on each other. WWE Officials try to separate both men as Reigns grabs a steel chair and drives chair shots into Rusev. Reigns unloads punches on Rusev and then ground and pounds Rusev on the floor. WWE Officials try to pull Reigns off Rusev as he starts unloading head butts. Reigns is finally escorted to the back as WWE Medical check on Rusev. It's made official that Rusev can't compete and is helped to his feet. Reigns returns and spears the hell out of Rusev before being escorted out again.
Winner: No Contest

- Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton: The match closes out with Lesnar up to seven German suplexes on Orton. The fight goes outside and on top of the announcers table. Lesnar picks Orton up, but Orton counters and hits Lesnar with an RKO on the table. Orton attacks Lesnar as he enters the ring and hits the hanging DDT on Lesnar. Orton hits an RKO, but Lesnar kicks out at two. Orton charges at Lesnar, but gets caught and planted with an F5 for a near fall. Lesnar ground and pounds Orton with punches, forearms and elbows, busting Orton wide open on the forehead.
WWE Medical check on Orton, but Lesnar pushes through and continues with more ground and pound offense on Orton. The referee gets Lesnar to stand down so WWE Medical can check on Orton. The fans chant for Goldberg, but Goldberg isn't in the building. Lesnar again pushes past WWE Medical and unloads more ground and pound offense on Orton. Orton is a bloody unconscious mess as the referee finally stops the match and announces Lesnar the winner. After the match, Lesnar again pushes past WWE Medical and unloads more ground and pound offense on Orton. Shane McMahon hits the ring and orders Lesnar to stand down. Lesnar grabs Shane and drops the Smackdown Live boss with an F5. Orton tries to stand, shoving away WWE Medical as Lesnar leaves. Shane slowly gets back up and stares down Lesnar to end the show.
Winner: Brock Lesnar, by stoppage.
