WWE Royal Rumble 2016 Preview #RoyalRumble

By @B_Rock1978

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, brought to you by Triple Threat CLE, returns with the Royal Rumble Preview Edition.

This year's Royal Rumble comes to us live at the Amway Center in sunny Orlando, Florida. The Royal Rumble celebrates its 29th year and promises to deliver with a first in Royal Rumble history, as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will be defended in the actual Royal Rumble. You can check out the show on WWE Network, but you can also stay tuned to Triple Threat CLE and read my recap on the event.

- "30 Man Royal Rumble For The WWE World Heavyweight Championship": Yes you read that right. This year's Royal Rumble, the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Roman Reigns, is being forced by WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, to defend his championship in the Royal Rumble. Not only is Reigns defending the title, but he has to start at entrant #1 and survive the whole Royal Rumble. This will also be a first in WWE history, as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship has never been defended in the actual Royal Rumble before. Can Reigns defend his title successfully against 29 other men? Will we see a new champion crowned when it's all said and done? And what about a #1 Contender? For years the Royal Rumble winner was guaranteed a main event title shot at Wrestlemania, what will the future hold for that?

- "WWE Intercontinental Championship, Last Man Standing Match": Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Kevin Owens: Last month at WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs, Dean Ambrose defeated Kevin Owens to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Since than, Kevin Owens has appeared to have gone into a rage against Dean Ambrose and has tried to physically harm the resident lunatic. Dean Ambrose threw down the Last Man Standing Match stipulation for this match and promised the only way Owens would get the title back is if Ambrose quits breathing.

- "WWE United States Championship Match": Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Kalisto: These two have had quite a history this month. John Cena introduced Kalisto as a suitable opponent for Del Rio. Kalisto would go on to defeat Del Rio in a non-title match and then again to win the WWE United States Championship. Del Rio got his revenge on Kalisto three days later and won back the WWE United States Championship from Kalisto. Now both men will go at it again in the rubber match at the Royal Rumble. Who will walk out the WWE United States Champion?

- "WWE World Tag Team Championship Match": The New Day (c) vs. The Usos: Since returning to the WWE, The Usos have been on a tear, regaining their popularity and even winning WWE Tag Team Of The Year, an award that The New Day felt should've been theirs. The Usos would then go on to defeat The New Day in a non-title match, making them #1 Contenders for the WWE World Tag Team Championship. The New Day, who still feel The Usos don't deserve everything that they've accomplished since returning, are now forced to defend the titles at the Royal Rumble.

- "WWE Divas Championship Match": Charlotte (c) vs. Becky Lynch: Two friends have now turned enemies over the WWE Divas Championship. Becky defeated Charlotte in a non-title match on RAW and Charlotte would go on to attack her friend from behind after the match. Charlotte would then defeat Becky in the Smackdown premier on the USA Network to retain the title, but Becky wanted another shot. Charlotte refused, however, Becky went after Charlotte's father, Ric Flair, forcing Flair to accept the challenge on behalf of a shocked Charlotte. Which one of these former friends turned enemies will walk out the WWE Divas Champion?

*** Royal Rumble PreShow ***

- "Fatal Four Way, Tag Team Match": Darren Young and Damien Sandow vs. The Dudley Boys vs. The Ascension vs. Jack Swagger and Mark Henry: No real feud has been going on between these four teams. Instead there will be a prize for the victors of this match. The winning team will be given two spots in the Royal Rumble with a chance at walking out the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

- "The Phenomenal" A.J. Styles Appearing?? As of this writing, nothing is 100% set in stone or even official yet. A.J. Styles has, however, officially signed with the WWE and even dropped hints at a recent independent show that he would take a spot in the Royal Rumble if one was open. Again these are all rumors and there is no for sure official announcement saying Styles will be at the Royal Rumble.
