Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, 4.8.16: NXT& SmackDown

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, brought to you by Triple Threat CLE, is here with your NXT Recap Edition.

This week's NXT took place at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida. NXT Takeover: Dallas was another huge success for NXT, as they sold out the show last weekend. What new feuds will begin now that Takeover has passed? This week's NXT we were shown NXT Takeover: Dallas highlights and after match interviews. The only match shown this week was Apollo Crews, who has just made his jump to the main roster, battle Elias Samson in a one on one match.

*** NXT ***

- Elias Samson vs. Apollo Crews: Apparently Samson has begun the singing and playing guitar gimmick, as he plays and sings before the match. The match closes out with Crews hitting his gotcha clothesline and follows that up with the leaping enziguri. Samson rolls to the outside, where Crews follows and hits a moonsault off the apron onto Samson. Back in the ring, Crews lifts Samson and gorilla press slams him. Crews goes for the standing moonsault, but Samson gets his knees up for the block. Samson is back to his feet and hits a jumping knee on Crews and gets a near fall. Samson goes for his neck breaker finisher, but Crews counters it into the Apollo Bomb and scores the pinfall.
Winner: Apollo Crews, by pinfall.

This week's Smackdown took place in Houston, Texas. New #1 contender, AJ Styles and WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Roman Reigns, meet face to face. Former NXT World Tag Team Champions, The Vaudevillains, make their main roster debut against the Lucha Dragons. Nattie Neidhart battled Summer Rae in Women's Division action. The Miz defends his newly won WWE Intercontinental Championship against former champion, Zack Ryder. Apollo Crews battled Curtis Axel of the Social Outcasts. Dean Ambrose battled Tyler Breeze in one on one action. Main event time saw tag team action, as Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho faced AJ Styles and Cesaro.

*** Smackdown ***

- Roman Reigns Promo: Reigns says he beat The Authority, got back his title, you can love him or hate him, but it doesn't matter because he's THE guy. Reigns says that next up he's going to beat AJ Styles and do what he's got to do. Styles interrupts, shakes Reigns' hand and congratulates Reigns. Styles says he went through three guys on RAW to get here, has been all over the world, has beaten the best and held numerous titles. Reigns says he knows about Styles' history, but he's never beaten Reigns and he never will. Reigns pats Styles on the back and walks away. 

- The Vaudevillains vs. The Lucha Dragons: The match closes out with Kalisto hitting a springboard corkscrew splash on Gotch and then an enziguri on English. Kalisto lands a roll through side kick on Gotch and gets a near fall. Sin Cara tosses English to the floor, then hits a suicide dive. Gotch hits a baseball slide that sends Sin Cara into the barricade. Kalisto hits Gotch with a spinning heel kick, then goes for Salida Del Sol. English, however, blind tags in and Gotch and English hit the Whirling Dervish on Kalisto for the pinfall.
Winners: The Vaudevillains, by pinfall.

- Nattie Neidhart vs. Summer Rae: WWE Women's Champion, Charlotte, is on commentary and watch this match. The match closes out with Summer trapping Nattie in a cobra clutch submission, but Nattie counters out with an arm drag. Summer next lands a spinning heel kick on Nattie and lands a couple chops. Summer goes for another spinning heel kick, but Nattie counters and takes down Summer. Nattie traps Summer in the Sharpshooter submission and forces Summer to tap out.
Winner: Nattie Neidhart, by submission.

- "WWE Intercontinental Championship Match": The Miz (c) vs. Zack Ryder: The match closes out with Ryder hitting the Broski Boot to Miz outside the ring. Back in the ring, Ryder goes to the top rope and hits the flying elbow drop on Miz and gets a near fall. Miz regains control with a boot to Ryder, but Ryder comes back and unloads punches on Miz. Ryder mudhole stomps on Miz's chest when suddenly Miz's wife, Maryse, jumps on the apron and rips off the turnbuckle pad, exposing the steel. Ryder gets distracted and gets hit with the Skull Crushing Finale. Miz covers, scores the pinfall and retains his championship.
Winner: The Miz, by pinfall, to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

- Apollo Crews vs. Curtis Axel: The match closes out with Axel hitting a running clothesline, mudhole stomps on Crews and then hits a drop kick. Crews comes back with a drop kick of his own, dropping Axel. Crews hits the standing moonsault on Axel and gets a near fall. Heath Slater tries to distract Crews, but gets sent flying into the announcers table. Crews hits the Apollo Bomb on Axel and scores the pinfall.
Winner: Apollo Crews, by pinfall.

- Baron Corbin Promo: Corbin says that in two short nights he won a trophy and dented in Dolph Ziggler's head. The end of days isn't coming......it's already here.

- Backstage, Becky Lynch says Wrestlemania was one of the most brutal matches she's been in, judging by the stitches she had to get above her eye, but fighting for the WWE Women's Championship was worth it. Becky says she'll be back in the title hunt soon and pay Charlotte back. Emma interrupts and says Becky has had her opportunities, belongs at the back of the line now and it's Emma's time to shine. Becky tells Emma to walk away before she gives her a black eye.

- Dean Ambrose vs. Tyler Breeze: The match closes out with Breeze irish whipping Ambrose and landing a drop kick. Ambrose quickly comes back and hits the rebound clothesline, dropping Breeze. Breeze gets back up and gets planted with Dirty Deeds from Ambrose. Ambrose covers and scores the pinfall.
Winner: Dean Ambrose, by pinfall.

- Backstage, Goldust wants to make a movie called Shattered Dreams 2. R-Truth says RAW is in Los Angeles Monday and he has Hollywood connections. Goldust still says he's not teaming with Truth.

- Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho vs. AJ Styles and Cesaro: The match closes out with Styles going for a springboard moonsault, but Owens counters with a superkick. Styles comes back and hits the Pele Kick on Owens. Styles goes for the springboard Phenomenal Forearm, but Jericho shoves Styles off the ropes. Owens plants Styles with a inverted package piledriver and gets a near fall. Cesaro nails Jericho with a running uppercut, sending Jericho flying into the time keeper’s area. Owens goes for the pop up powerbomb, but Sami Zayn hits the ring and distracts Owens. Styles rolls Owens up on the distraction and scores the pinfall. After the match, Owens and Zayn begin brawling around ringside. Owens gains control, sends Zayn into the steel steps and escapes to end the show.
Winners: AJ Styles and Cesaro, by pinfall.
