Cleveland Indians baseball is officially back! Sadly, though, the Tribe didn't start out the way they would have liked to, losing to the Houston Astros 2-0. Corey Kluber was his usual outstanding self, striking out 7 in 8.1 innings of work. But his hitters let him down with only 3 hits, no runs and 11 men left on base. Lonnie Chisenhall, Yan Gomes and Carlos Santana had 1 hit each.
But the story of the night was Dallas Keuchel who went 7 scoreless , only giving up 3 hits and striking out 4. Former Indian Tony Sipp pitched a scoreless 8th with Luke Gregerson picking up his first save of the year. Jose Altuve and George Springer rallied the Astros in the sixth giving them the lead for good with an added insurance run on a sacrifice fly by Jake Marisnick which scored Jed Lowrie.
The return of Klubot: Corey Kluber may have lost the game, but he was outstanding. He showed that last year was no fluke and that the best may be yet to come in 2015.
Keuchel 's the man : Dallas Keuchel was not going to deny his Houston Astros a home open loss. As good Kluber was, Keuchel was slightly better on this night. He went 7 innings and got out of a jam in the seventh. With back to back singles by Carlos Santana and Yan Gomes to start the inning, he was able to get out of the jam by striking out Brandon Moss and getting out Ryan Raburn and Lonnie Chisenhall on light ground balls in front of him.
Player of the game: Jose Altuve who got the first base hit off of Kluber, stole second and was brought home on a single by George Springer with 2 outs in the bottom of the sixth. Altuve looks to be starting where he left last year as well.
Up next: The Indians and Astros meet again on Wednesday when Carlos Carrasco goes to the hill against right hander Scott Feldman.
