"Rowdy" Ronda Rousey in the WWE? It could happen.
A recent story broke this past week about UFC's Women's Bantamweight Champion "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey being interested in working with the WWE one day. The rumors started circulating a few months back than returned again as Rousey was present at this year's SummerSlam. Rousey wasn't alone at SummerSlam either. Rousey had her good friends MMA fighters, Marina Shafir, Jessmyn Duke and Shayna Baszler. The four ladies put together call themselves The Four Horsewomen.
The Four Horsewomen enjoyed the SummerSlam festivities, took pictures and hung out backstage with various wrestlers. While backstage, various reports stated that Rousey made a huge positive impression with WWE management and WWE would love to use her one day for a storyline.
Now before the whole SummerSlam backstage meet and greet between Rousey and WWE management, there was talk about Rousey a few months back. WWE kicked around the idea of using The Four Horsewomen at SummerSlam, however, at that time nothing was finalized because the key people in WWE knew nothing about UFC.
The Four Horsewomen arrived and impressed not only the key people of WWE but they also impressed Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie talked up Rousey and her friends after the meet and greet at SummerSlam and even included The Four Horsewomen in her Ice Bucket Challenge/Victory Over Brie Bella Celebration. Things are definitely looking good for Rousey and friends to possibly be involved with WWE one day.
The next obstacle would be the UFC and UFC owner, Dana White. With her current hectic schedule, which includes movie roles, workouts, UFC advertising and oh yeah defending her UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship, Rousey's plate looks pretty full at the moment. Also a lot would have to be done to win over the idea with UFC owner, Dana White. Dana has been known to shoot down ideas that he feels wouldn't benefit him or possibly cause negative feedback on the UFC. Right now Rousey is a great draw for UFC and could make good money for both WWE and UFC if Dana were to approve it. But how would Dana feel about using one of his stars in a WWE ring? Many think Dana would shoot the idea down quick, not wanting anything to do with the WWE.
So let's pretend that all parties are a go. How would WWE use Rousey? Would she actually wrestle a match? Would she be in someone's corner? Maybe a special referee? I think she would be a draw no matter how they use her. Wrestling wise I really don't think there is anyone that I could see challenge her in the current WWE Divas Division to make it look believable. So I'm thinking putting her as a special referee or maybe an enforcer in a very hot divas feud going on at that moment would work.
Like I said, no matter where they use her, it'll be a huge draw. Hopefully Dana White would agree and work out a deal with WWE for a one night only gig. Until that happens we'll just have to sit, wait and hope for the best.
