Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, 2.5.16: #NXT & #SmackDown

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, brought to you by Triple Threat CLE, is here with your NXT Recap Edition.

This week's NXT took place back at their home base of Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida. Asuka continues to be dominate in the Women's Division. Carmella battled Emma and sent a message to her BFF, Bayley, who she will battle next week for the NXT Women's Championship. NXT GM William Regal comes to a final decision on last week's controversial triple threat match ending. Apollo Crews gets his one on one non-title match against Finn Balor, as Crews looks to prove himself again in the World Title picture.

*** NXT ***

- The Vaudevillains vs. The Hype Bros: The match closes out with, Gotch tagging in and locking a modified chin lock submission in on Zack Ryder. Ryder tries to escape as English tags back in. Ryder finally hits an enziguri on English and tags in Mojo. Mojo gets hype and unloads on Gotch and English. The Hype Bros. are in control, until Ryder tags back in and gets laid out with the double team Whirling Dervish finisher, giving the Vaudevillains the pinfall victory.
Winners: The Vaudevillains, by pinfall.

- Backstage, Carmella claims she'll prove to be worthy by beating Emma tonight and Bayley for the NXT Women's Championship, next week.

- Carmella vs. Emma: The match closes out with, Emma cheating by standing on Carmella's hair and pulling her arms up. The referee orders the break, so Emma goes for a slam, which Carmella counters with a Thesz Press. Carmella goes for her finisher, but Emma counters and tosses Carmella into the corner. Emma goes for a suplex, but Carmella counters with a backslide for the pinfall.
Winner: Carmella, by pinfall.

- Backstage, Sami Zayn says he should be declared the winner in last week's controversial triple threat match ending. Samoa Joe almost beats down the reporter when Joe is asked for his comments.

- Enzo Amore and Colin Cassidy vs. Two Local Talents: The match closes out with, Enzo and Big Cass making quick work of the local wrestlers by hitting their top rope splash double team finisher, for the pinfall.
Winners: Enzo Amore and Big Cass, by pinfall.

- Backstage, Apollo Crews says tonight he's going to prove that he deserves another shot at the NXT World Title.

- NXT GM William Regal Promo: Regal announces that next week the two winners of the triple threat match, Sami Zayn and Samoa Joe, will have a rematch to determine the #1 Contender for the NXT World Title. Baron Corbin bursts in Regal's office and says he should be included too and this is all a joke. Regal reminds Corbin that he lost and is out of the equation.

- Asuka vs. Santana Garrett: The match closes out with Garrett getting a near fall with a side russian leg sweep. Garrett runs the ropes, but ends up in Asuka's cross arm breaker submission. Garrett tries to roll through to escape, but rolls right into the Asuka Lock submission. Garrett taps out and Asuka picks up the victory. 
Winner: Asuka, by submission.

- Finn Balor vs. Apollo Crews: The match closes out with, Crews hitting the big boot, the gorilla press slam and the standing moonsault on Balor for a near fall. Crews goes for a powerbomb toss, but Balor counters and flips out of it. Balor hits the Sling Blade on Crews and follows with a missile drop kick in the corner. Balor goes to the top rope and nails Crews with the double foot stomp finisher. Crews refuses to go down after Balor's finisher and starts to get back up. Balor hits Bloody Sunday on Crews and finally scores the pinfall. After the match Balor and Crews go face to face in the ring and shake hands to end the show.
Winner: Finn Balor, by pinfall.

This week's Smackdown took place in Memphis, Tennessee. After their Miz TV confrontation on RAW, The Miz goes one on one with AJ Styles. Kalisto defends his WWE United States Championship against Kevin Owens. Roman Reigns does double duty tonight, as he faces Rusev one on one and then teams with Dean Ambrose to battle the League of Nations in the main event.

*** Smackdown ***

- Roman Reigns vs. Rusev (w/The League of Nations): The match closes out with, Reigns hitting the flying apron drop kick on Rusev and follows up with a clothesline. Rusev regains control and hits a series of clotheslines on Reigns in the corner. Reigns comes back and goes for the Superman Punch, but King Barrett and Alberto Del Rio hit the ring, attack Reigns and cause the DQ. After the match, Reigns gets tossed into the barricade, when Dean Ambrose hits the ring.
Ambrose takes out Rusev, then goes for a flying cross body on Barrett and Del Rio. The LON move and Ambrose takes out Reigns on accident. Del Rio super kicks Ambrose and then Rusev traps Ambrose in The Accolade submission. Reigns grabs a steel chair and cleans house.
Winner: Roman Reigns, by DQ.

- Backstage, Dean Ambrose says what he did to Roman Reigns was an accident and Reigns knows that sometimes they hit each other to get the job done.

- "WWE United States Championship Match": Kalisto (c) vs. Kevin Owens: Dolph Ziggler who's had issues with Owens was on commentary. The match closes out with, Owens dodging a Kalisto baseball slide and Owens sends Kalisto into the barricade. Owens sets up Kalisto for a power bomb through the announcers table, changes his mind and hurls Kalisto into Ziggler instead. Owens super kicks Ziggler and tosses Kalisto back in the ring. Ziggler grabs Owens feet, distracting him and allows Kalisto to roll Owens up for the pinfall. After the match, Owens attacks Kalisto, but Ziggler makes the save.
Winner: Kalisto, by pinfall, to retain the WWE United States Championship.

- Backstage, The Miz says he was trying to help AJ Styles on RAW, calls Styles a redneck rookie and Miz was upset that Styles turned down his offer.

- Ryback vs. Erick Rowan: The match closes out with, Ryback hitting a spine buster and sets Rowan up for the Meat Hook. Braun Strowman gets on the apron, but gets knocked off after Ryback hurls Rowan into Strowman. Ryback hits the Meat Hook clothesline on Rowan and scores the pinfall. After the match, Strowman gets in the ring and lands a huge punch on Ryback, dropping the big guy.
Winner: Ryback, by pinfall.

- The Miz vs. AJ Styles: The match closes out with, Styles getting a near fall rollup and follows with a clothesline to Miz. Styles and Miz hit double clotheslines on each other. Miz gets a near fall inverted DDT and goes for the Skull Crushing Finale. Styles counters with a near fall Pele Kick. Miz counters the Styles Clash, but Styles hits a flying forearm. Miz and Styles trade rollups until Styles rolls through and locks Miz in the Calf Crusher submission, forcing Miz to tap out. After the match, Chris Jericho comes to the ring and congratulated Styles. Jericho asks Styles if he thinks he's good enough to be a WWE World Heavyweight Champion and if he thinks he can beat Jericho twice. Jericho challenges Styles to a rematch next Smackdown and Styles accepts.
Winner: AJ Styles, by submission.

- Backstage, Becky Lynch tries to tell Sasha Banks why she helped her on RAW. Sasha cuts her off and doesn't care because she never would've done the same for Becky. Becky and Sasha argue over who's going after Charlotte first and decide to team together and take out Naomi and Tamina but won't like it.

- "Six Man Tag Team Match": The New Day vs. The Social Outcasts: The match closes out with, Slater tossing Woods to the floor, but Slater gets sent to the floor by Big E. Rose hits a running knee on Big E. and Kofi hits Trouble In Paradise on Rose. Axel rolls Kofi up and tries to steal one with his feet on the ropes for leverage, but Kofi kicks out, thanks to Woods' help. Big E takes out Slater outside and Kofi returns the favor to Axel by scoring the pinfall with his feet on the ropes.
Winners: The New Day, by pinfall.

- Backstage, Roman Reigns says Dean Ambrose has always been crazy and they both have their own style of doing things. Reigns says accidents happen, but at Fastlane there will be no accidents, just an 18 car pile up.

- Charlotte (w/Ric Flair) vs. Alicia Fox (w/Brie Bella): The match closes out with, Alicia and Charlotte taking each other out with drop kicks. Alicia lands a knee, a couple more drop kicks and a tilt-a-whirl back breaker on Charlotte for a near fall. Charlotte comes back and lands a chop block on Alicia's leg. Charlotte locks Alicia in the Figure Eight submission and forces Alicia to tap out.
Winner: Charlotte, by submission.

- Goldust meets R-Truth at his hotel room and continues to try to get Truth to team with him. Truth continues to say no and asks Goldust to leave him alone.

- Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns vs. Alberto Del Rio and Rusev: The match closes out with, Ambrose hitting the bounce back clothesline and tags Reigns. Reigns hits the apron drop kick on Rusev and upper cuts Del Rio. Reigns hits the Superman Punch on Rusev, but Del Rio comes in and super kicks Reigns. Reigns and Del Rio brawl on the floor.
Ambrose goes for the suicide dive and again accidentally takes out Reigns. Reigns and Ambrose begin to argue with each other over the second accident of the night. Reigns turns and hits a Superman Punch on Rusev and then a spear to score the pinfall.
Winners: Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns, by pinfall. 

- This closes out this weeks Smackdown.
