Today In Cleveland Sports History: Armando Galarraga's Near No-No
Armando Galarraga of the Detroit Tigers nearly pitched a no-hitter against the Cleveland Indians on June 2, 2010. After retiring 26 straight batters, first base umpire Jim Joyce incorrectly ruled batter, Jason Donald, reached first base safely on a ground ball. Galarraga finished with a 1 hit 3-0 win over the Indians. After the game Jim Joyce seen the replays and tearfully apologized for making the wrong call. Galarraga was very understanding and accepted Joyce's apology. The next day Joyce still tearful exchanged lineup cards with Galarraga and they shook hands. This game has been labeled the imperfect-perfect game.
