Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, brought to you by Triple Threat CLE, brings you the NXT Takeover: London recap. NXT Takeover: London, obvious by the title, took its up and coming talent to the United Kingdom. Takeover took place live at Wembley Arena, in London, England. Let's get to the recap, but first.....
Me being the metal and rock guy at Triple Threat CLE, I want to share one of the show's official theme songs, London England's own metal gods, Motorhead, performing Ace of Spades.
- Triple H Welcomes Us To NXT Takeover: London: Triple H is in the spotlight, center ring, with a microphone. Triple H says he got his ass kicked at WWE TLC on Sunday, but he would have to be dead to not make the show tonight. THIS...IS...NXT!!!
- Asuka vs. Emma (w/Dana Brooke): Dana Brooke makes her move early in the match, distracting Asuka, forcing Asuka to hesitate and stare down Dana. Emma takes advantage and drop kicks Asuka off the apron. The match closes out with, Asuka missing a corner splash, allowing Emma to apply DilEmma, land a butterfly suplex into the turn buckle and hit a corner cross body for a near fall. Emma locks in a Surfboard submission, but Asuka counters it into an Ankle Lock submission. Emma escapes, but gets hit with a german suplex, followed by the Shining Wizard for a near fall. Emma fights out of a cross face chicken wing submission and then a chin lock, by backing the referee into the corner.
Asuka checks on the referee, as Dana tosses Emma a weapon. Asuka intercepts the weapon, just as the referee comes to. Asuka explains what happened to the referee, trying to avoid the DQ. Emma gets a near fall roll up on Asuka during the distraction. Asuka is back up and locks Emma in the cross face chicken wing submission, forcing Emma to tap out, however, Dana Brooke is back on the apron, distracting the referee. The referee kicks Dana out from ringside and orders her to the backstage area. Asuka releases the submission, plants the Asuka Heel Kick on Emma and scores the pinfall.
Winner: Asuka, by pinfall
- We get a shot of UK Wrestling Legend, Johnny Saint, sitting in the crowd.
- "NXT World Tag Team Championship Match": Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder (c) vs. Enzo Amore and Big Cass (w/Carmella): Before the match, Enzo and Big Cass cut a promo, telling us how they got here and why they're leaving the new tag team champions. The match closes out with, Big Cass hitting the Bossman Slam for a near fall on Dawson. Wilder gets sent to the floor and Dawson clips Cass' knee. Wilder tags in and goes to submission holds on Cass' knee. Enzo tries to help break the hold, but gets tossed to the floor by Dawson. Cass finally reaches the ropes to break the submission.
Dawson goes to the top rope, but gets crotched by Enzo, as Cass rolls Wilder up for a near fall. Cass lands the big boot on Wilder and tags Enzo. Enzo and Cass go for the Rocket Launcher, but Dawson pulls Enzo to the floor. Dawson goes after Carmella, but eats a Carmella slap to the face. Cass comes to Carmella's aid, but is tossed into the outside ring post. Dawson and Wilder hit Shatter Machine on Enzo, score the pinfall and retain the NXT World Tag Team Championship.
Winners: Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson, by pinfall, to retain the NXT World Tag Team Championship
- Apollo Crews vs. Baron Corbin: The match closes out with, Corbin escaping out to the floor and Crews follows. Corbin tosses Crews into the apron, but Crews leaps onto the apron and moonsaults back onto Corbin. Back in the ring, Crews unloads a series of clotheslines on Corbin and then hits a corner Stinger Splash. Corbin comes back and hits a spinning side slam on Crews for a near fall. Corbin goes for End of Days, but Crews counters, hits an enzuigiri and a standing moonsault for a near fall. Corbin blocks an Irish whip and both men trade punches. Crews tries to get Corbin up in the air, but Corbin grabs the ropes for the block. Crews releases and ends up getting laid out by Corbin with End of Days. Corbin covers and scores the pinfall.
Winner: Baron Corbin, by pinfall
- We get a video package dedicated to former NXT World Champion, Sami Zayn. Sami Zayn makes his official return from shoulder surgery next week.
- Backstage, Nia Jax is interrupted by a smiling Asuka. After Asuka walks away, Jax states she'll dominate and destroy Bayley.
- "NXT Women's Championship Match": Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax: The match closes out with Nia hitting a samoan drop on Bayley for a near fall. Nia hits a second samoan drop, an alley oop samoan drop, hits the leg drop and covers with one foot on Bayley, but Bayley kicks out. Nia splashes Bayley in the corner and tosses Bayley by her hair into the mat. Nia lands three straight leg drops to the back of Bayley's head and Bayley looks unconscious. Nia covers and Bayley somehow still kicks out. The referee checks on Bayley to see if she can really continue and she says she's good. Nia crushes Bayley, this time with a splash in the corner, putting Bayley down again. Nia goes for a superplex on Bayley, but Bayley counters and locks in a guillotine choke submission on Nia.
Nia escapes the guillotine by planting Bayley with a spine buster. Bayley refuses to release Nia and reapplies the guillotine choke submission. Nia picks up and plants Bayley with a second spine buster. Bayley still refuses to let go and reapplies the guillotine choke submission a third time. Bayley cinches the submission tight, but Nia refuses to tap out. Bayley continues to apply the submission tighter and Nia finally taps out. Bayley somehow survives and retains the NXT Women's Championship.
Winner: Bayley, by submission, to retain the NXT Women's Championship
- "NXT World Championship Match": Finn Balor (c) vs. Samoa Joe: Finn Balor put a little spin on his demon Balor entrance. Balor appeared dressed as the demon, but also wore a top hat, a long black coat and carried a black bag, dressed as London's own serial killer, Jack The Ripper. The match closes out with, Joe hitting an elbow and applying the Coquina Clutch submission. Balor charges into the corner to break the submission. Balor goes out to the apron, but eats a Joe forearm. Joe reapplies the Coquina Clutch submission and pulls Balor back into the ring. Joe pulls Balor down to the mat to cinch in the hold, but Balor rolls out and hits a double stomp on Joe.
Joe and Balor beat the ten count, Balor hits the Sling Blade on Joe and hits a running drop kick on Joe in the corner. Balor hits another running drop kick and a third drop kick sending Joe back into the corner. Balor goes to the top rope, but Joe stops Balor and goes for the Muscle Buster. Balor blocks it, but Joe lands an enzuigiri to Balor. Joe goes up to the top rope with Balor, but gets lit up with elbows and a chop that sends Joe crashing to the mat. Balor leaps off the top rope and lands the double stomp. Balor covers and scores the pinfall, to retain the NXT World Championship.
After the match, Joe is helped backstage with blood dripping from his mouth and Balor is receiving attention from a WWE doctor to close out the show.
Winner: Finn Balor, by pinfall, to retain the NXT World Championship
