Wrestling Lockup With Brandon 8/23/17: Smackdown Live Brooklyn Recap

Smackdown Live was live this week in Brooklyn, New York for the final show of their 4 night event in Brooklyn. With NXT Takeover, WWE SummerSlam and RAW in the books, how will Smackdown Live close the tour out??

** Smackdown Live Card **

- Bobby Roode from NXT makes his Smackdown Live debut and battled Aiden English.
- WWE Smackdown Live World Tag Team Champions The Usos battled The Hype Bros. in a non title match.
- Shinsuke Nakamura battled The Singh Brothers in a Handicap Match.
- WWE Smackdown Live Women's Champion Nattie Neidhart and Ms. Money In The Bank Carmella battled Becky Lynch and Naomi. 
- WWE United States Champion AJ Styles defended his title against Kevin Owens with Baron Corbin as Special Guest Referee.

- WWE United States Champion AJ Styles announces the return of the US Open Challenge.

** Smackdown Live **

- AJ Styles Promo: Styles talks about retaining his title at WWE SummerSlam and announces the return of the US Open Challenge. Kevin Owens interrupts and Styles immediately says no he's done with Owens. Owens says Styles can't take credit for winning because a McMahon screwed a Canadian again. Shane McMahon interrupts and can see Owens is upset, but Shane did call the match right down the middle. Owens says he was physically assaulted and that's how Styles won. Shane says the better man won, but Owens still demands his title back. Styles tells them both to shut up and he'll give Owens a rematch. Owens accepts but he wants to pick his own referee. Shane tells Styles to think about this first. Styles says he doesn't care because Owens will still lose. Shane makes the match official for tonight to end the segment.

- Backstage, Daniel Bryan informs Jinder Mahal that he can't win a match without The Singh Brothers interfering. Bryan says that Shinsuke Nakamura deserves another shot at Mahal and then announces Nakamura vs. The Singh Brothers tonight.

- Backstage, Kevin Owens tells Sami Zayn that they've been friends for 15 years and he's the only one that Owens trusts to be his referee tonight. Zayn says they've been fighting each other for so long that he's forgotten what they've been fighting about. Zayn says he'll think about it. 
 

- Aiden English vs. Bobby Roode: The match closes out with English hitting the Director's Cut on Roode for a near fall. Roode hits a spine buster on English and then the Glorious DDT for the pinfall.
Winner: Bobby Roode, by pinfall.

- After the match, Bobby Roode congratulates Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan for cashing in on Bobby Roode. Roode says that with his presence Smackdown Live has gone from being great to now being glorious.

- Backstage, Chad Gable is asked to be seen by Daniel Bryan. Bryan says he cut a deal with Kurt Angle when Angle took Jason Jordan to RAW. Angle introduces Gable to his new tag team partner just signed by WWE. Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin. Gable is excited about the announcement.


- Backstage, Kevin Owens gives Sami Zayn a referee shirt. Zayn turns down the offer.

- The Hype Bros vs. The Usos: The match closes out with Ryder unloading as Mojo gets tossed outside. Ryder gets distracted and eats a cheap shot. Ryder gets hit with an Uso Kick and The Usos score the pinfall.
Winners: The Usos, by pinfall.

- After the match, The Usos send a warning to all the Smackdown Live tag teams.

- "Handicap Match": Shinsuke Nakamura vs. The Singh Brothers: The match closes out with Jinder Mahal distracting Nakamura, helping The Singh Brothers double team him. Nakamura makes the comeback and catches Samir Singh in an arm bar submission for the tap out win.
Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura, by submission.

- After the match, Mahal attacks Nakamura from behind. Nakamura comes back and hits the Kinshasa, knocking out Mahal.

- Backstage, Breezango tell Kevin Owens their off this week so they'll referee. Owens tells them to get lost. Owens changes his mind, but Baron Corbin interrupts and says he'll do it, but he better get the first title shot when Owens wins the United States Championship back.

- Becky Lynch and Naomi vs. Nattie Neidhart and Carmella: The match closes out with Naomi trapping Nattie in a submission. Nattie escapes and unloads on Naomi. Carmella is tagged in, but refuses to wrestle. Nattie and Carmella go at it and Carmella kicks Nattie to the floor. Becky grabs Carmella and nails the Bexploder. Naomi hits the split legged moonsault on Carmella and scores the pinfall.
Winners: Becky Lynch and Naomi by pinfall.

- Backstage, Dolph Ziggler returns and announces that next week he's going to start delivering stupid gimmicks to get over because that's apparently what you need to get over in the WWE.

- Backstage, Lana tells Tamina to close her eyes and think about all the people who have talked behind her back and channel that anger. Lana says Tamina is now ready, they will crush the competition and Tamina will be a future WWE Smackdown Live Women's Champion.

- Backstage, Baron Corbin tells AJ Styles that he's the referee and made a deal with Kevin Owens. Corbin asks what Styles will offer. Styles says he can get his title shot anytime all he has to do is answer the US Open Challenge.

- "WWE United States Championship Match: AJ Styles (c) vs. Kevin Owens, with Baron Corbin as Special Guest Referee: The match closes out with Styles and Corbin arguing until Owens sends Styles into Corbin and gets a near fall rollup. Styles and Corbin argue again. Shane McMahon arrives and yells at Corbin for his fast counts. Corbin yells at Shane as Owens low blows Styles. Shane ejects Corbin as the referee and takes over.  Corbin throws his shirt at Shane and yells at him. Owens steps in and starts arguing with Shane now. Styles catches Owens with the Phenomenal Forearm and scores the pinfall.
Winner: AJ Styles, by pinfall, to retain the WWE United States Championship.
