The Puck Drops Here 12.5.14: #BlueJackets November Review

Blue Jackets November Review
By @CLulovics

Well the month of November in the world of the NHL and the Columbus Blue Jackets has come to an end. It was not a good month for the Jackets as injuries and inconsistent play continued to hurt the team moving into the second month of the season. I sat here for 2 weeks trying to come up with something to write and talk about but it seemed like what happened in October happened in November as well with the rash of injuries mounting up. Lets take a look on whos injured and who came back from being injured and yes who was injured and got injured again. (The theme this month is injuries if you haven't figured that out yet)

Starting goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky who was out with a broken finger made his return against the San Jose Sharks winning 2-1. The Jackets struggled without Bobrovsky in the net as they lost all but one game and only managed 2 pts out of a possible 16 pts with backup Curtis McElhinney and AHL call up Anton Forsberg manning the net in the absence of Bobrovsky.

Mark Letestu and Artem Anisimov the latter who came off injured reserve only to be re-injured will both miss additional time. Letestu had abdominal and groin surgery will be out at least 6 weeks. Anisimov who will be out 2-3 months with a torn triceps recently just joined the team after being out earlier with another injury. Both Letestu and Anisimov play center which means players who dont normally play center are finding themselves playing the position and that are of the team is becoming thin.

Boone Jenner played in his first game of the season in November after missing the start of the season with a broken hand and his style of play has been missed and is becoming a welcomed sight. Matt Calvert who lost some teeth in a game in October missed a couple more games before returning and helping out the team along with his linemates of Jenner and Atkinson. Defenseman Fedor Tyutin suffered a sprained knee and will be out 4-6 weeks.

The Blue Jackets have lost a combined total of 161 man games lost due to injuries so far in just the 2 months of the season compared to 292 games lost last year for the entire season. At this rate they will lose a grand total of 550 man games lost due to injuries this year. But maybe hope is on the verizon as Brandon Dubinsky will be coming back soon and has started skating and practicing with the team trying to get into game shape as he hasnt played all season.

The Blue Jackets are currently 7-15-2 for 16pts and sit in last place in the Eastern Conference and tied for last in the entire league with the Edmonton Oilers. The Jackets are typically a second half team as the past 2 years have gone on unbelievable point streaks resulting in a playoff birth last season and missing out on a tie breaker the year before. So all is not lost quite yet. They are 13 points from the last wild card spot but anything can happen in the NHL as 4 pt games will become crucial and getting points in multiple games will definitely help out.
