Wrestling Lockup with Brandon: Sting In WWE

Will Sting ever wrestle in the WWE?

Whether he was Blade Runner Sting, Surfer Sting, Crow Sting, Wolfpack Sting or Black and White Sting, Steve Borden, is no doubt one of the industries most charismatic wrestlers to ever step into the squared circle. Sting, made his name in the NWA which later became WCW and was the face of the company, up until WCW's demise, when Vince McMahon bought them out. At that time, Sting, still loyal to WCW, decided not to compete in Vince's WCW and finished out his contract at home. Which I think would have made the Invasion Angle huge if Sting would have jumped to WWE.

Sting stayed away from the wrestling scene for the next few years until resurfacing in TNA. Sting quickly made a name for himself yet again as he became one of TNA's top stars. Sting stayed loyal to TNA, just like he did with WCW, as he turned down WWE's contract offers when contract renewals came up.

What's interesting is the fact that Sting stated in many interviews that he came close on many occasions on signing with the WWE, but always felt like the time wasn't right. When Vince bought out WCW, Sting, had just become a born again Christian and felt his character would not have been used correctly in honoring that.

During his last few years in TNA, Sting stated that he met with Vince McMahon on many occasions and came close to signing with the WWE, but continued to stay loyal to TNA. Sting stated that he and Vince had a great relationship for the business but Sting still wasn't ready to make the WWE leap.

Sting finished out yet another year in TNA and again contract talks came up and it appeared that Sting was finally ready to make that WWE leap. Sting officially left TNA and became a free agent in the business. Rumors circulated on the internet that Sting had officially signed with the WWE this past spring, and it appeared that those rumors were true as Sting appeared for the first time on WWE programming. Granted it was only interview segments about the passing of his former tag team partner, Ultimate Warrior, on the WWE Network.

As of today, Sting, has still yet to sign an official contract with the WWE but has become the company's top merchandise draw at the tables this year. Sting shirts, Sting action figures, Sting masks, Sting's official DVD collection and other DVD merchandise highlighting Sting's character and matches. The WWE even took it to the next level with Sting. Two weeks ago the WWE officially announced their new WWE video game, 2K15, and who will be a downloadable playable character? Sting! This will mark the first time that Sting has ever appeared in a WWE video game. On July 24, Sting made his first public appearance for WWE, in his full Sting outfit at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con International. Sting was there to promote the WWE's new line of action figures coming out.

So my question is why has Sting still not signed an official WWE contract? Has he secretly done it, judging by all his recent WWE appearances? Possible, but why keep it secret? Is he still worried about the WWE tarnishing his legacy? Possible, considering the WWE has been known to dump on former WCW stars in some way, just ask Booker T.

Sting stated that he wants one more match and would love to wrestle at a Wrestlemania. He's even made it verbally known that wrestling The Undertaker at a Wrestlemania would be the match of his choice. So Sting, where do we go from here? I personally would love to see one more match out of the icon. I however would not want to see a Sting vs Taker match. Now ten years ago that match would be a five star classic, but I think Taker is too banged up to do it now. Honestly, I think the best option would be Sting vs John Cena at Wrestlemania. This would recreate that icon vs icon atmosphere that The Rock and Hulk Hogan pulled off at Wrestlemania 18. I would also mark out in seeing Sting vs Daniel Bryan, Sting vs CM Punk (if Punk ever returned), Sting vs Cesaro, Sting vs Chris Jericho and even Sting vs Bray Wyatt would be kinda cool looking at both of their gimmicks.

So Sting, put the ink to the paper and make some fan dream matches come true!
