Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, 7.15.14: WWE Raw

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon brought to you by Triple Threat Podcast is here!

Happy Tuesday and welcome to this week's RAW recap. RAW took place live from Richmond, Virginia this week. It was announced on Smackdown this passed Friday that we'd see a "6-Man Tag Match" as the main event tonight. John Cena, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose would be facing "The Authority's Henchmen", Randy Orton, Seth Rollins and Kane.
"Nature Boy" Ric Flair had also been advertised to return tonight. What would the 16 time World Champion have in store for us?

- Six more days to go till WWE Battleground as RAW kicked off with WWE World Heavyweight Champion, John Cena. Cena cuts a promo, hyping up Sunday's Fatal 4 Way Match at WWE Battleground. Roman Reigns interrupts as he enters the ring from the crowd. Cena and Reigns talk about Sunday as tempers begin to flare between the two. Dean Ambrose appears on the titantron and tries to talk down both men and get them focused on tonight's match. Ambrose says tonight's six man tag will be "Operation: Screw The Authority". Kane, Seth Rollins and Randy Orton suddenly appear and viciously attack Ambrose from behind. Ambrose is left laid out after being tossed into a metal garage door a couple times, tossed into a wall, choke slammed on a wooden prop and then "Curb Stomped".

- Sheamus vs The Miz. The Miz now has what's called "The Money Maker". The Money Maker is a Hollywood profile picture of The Miz on the titantron during the match while Miz wrestles. Sheamus misses the "Brogue Kick" allowing Miz to score a rollup pinfall.

- Backstage, Orton, Kane and Rollins are laughing at their attack on Ambrose. Kane and Orton begin to argue over who's winning Sunday. Triple H arrives and tells them to trust each other and worry about bringing the World Title back to The Authority. Stephanie McMahon arrives and plays tonsil hockey with Triple H.

- Dolph Ziggler vs Fandango. Summer Rae and Layla distracted both Ziggler and Fandango by dancing. Ziggler hits the "Fam-Asser" on Fandango for the pinfall. Ziggler leaves with both ladies.

- The Usos are hit from behind by Rowan and Harper as they came to the ring. Jimmy gets booted over the barricade and Jey gets a double slam in the ring by the Wyatt Family.

- "United States/Russia Detente": Lana and Rusev have a debate with Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter. Lana says Zeb and the U.S. are the same, they choose violence as a problem solver, they want to be the world's problem solver but can't fix their own and then calls us all stupid. Lana wants the U.S. to admit their mistakes and apologize. Zeb talks about serving in Vietnam and he didn't do it for people like Lana and Rusev to disrespect the U.S. After more back and forth verbal insults, Lana slaps Zeb as Swagger spears Rusev. Rusev throws Swagger into the podium and goes for his super kick. Swagger catches the leg and locks in the "Patriot Lock". Rusev makes it to the ropes and escapes the ring.

- Backstage, Cena and Reigns are plotting to take out Orton, Kane and Rollins as we learn Ambrose is out of the match later due to injury

- Alberto Del Rio vs Rob Van Dam. RVD goes for the "5 Star Frog Splash" but lands on Del Rio's raised knees. Del Rio locks in the cross arm breaker and RVD taps.

- "Handicap Match": Nikki Bella vs Alicia Fox and Cameron. Stephanie McMahon makes Nikki compete in this match as more punishment for being Brie's sister. Alicia hits her finisher and pins Nikki.

- Backstage, Triple H and Randy Orton are talking. Triple H tells Orton to forget about Kane because he's a pawn and Orton leaving Battleground the champion is the plan. Triple H agrees with Orton about not needing a "Plan B".

- Cesaro vs Big E. Cesaro tries to use a chair on Big E but Kofi Kingston stops him. Big E hits the "Big Ending" for the pinfall.

- Chris Jericho cuts a promo on the next segment. Jericho takes us down memory lane of everything that he's seen and done in the WWE. Jericho has never seen anyone like Bray Wyatt. Bray interrupts Jericho on the titantron and cuts a promo about Jericho "saving us" but was never there. Bray finishes his promo and the lights go out. The lights are back on and Rowan and Harper have Jericho surrounded. Jericho fights off the duo and escapes up the ramp. Bray comes out from behind and hits Jericho. Bray hits "Sister Abigail" on Jericho on the stage.

- A.J. Lee vs Eva Marie. Paige is doing commentary. AJ makes Eva tap to the "Black Widow". AJ and Paige have an odd conversation about how they look after the match.

- Backstage, Kane tells Triple H he doesn't trust Orton. Triple H says the World Title back in The Authority is what's best for business. Triple H tells Kane to get the job done.

- Bo Dallas vs The Great Khali. Dallas "Bo-Dogs" Khali on the floor and wins by count out. 15 and BO!!! Dallas tries to give Khali an inspirational speech after the match but gets nailed with a chop.

- Backstage, Seth Rollins tells Triple H that if Kane and Orton can't get the job done then there is still "Plan B". Paul Heyman appears and states that he has a great "Plan C".

- 16 time World Champion, Ric Flair, comes to the ring for a promo. Flair is asked who he thought would win the Fatal 4 Way at Battleground. Flair says John Cena. Roman Reigns interrupts and comes to the ring. Flair and Reigns shake hands and Flair leaves the ring. Cena comes out and gives Flair one of his titles. It's main event time.

- "3 on 2 Handicap Match": Randy Orton, Kane and Seth Rollins vs John Cena and Roman Reigns. The match ends as Kane and Orton beat down Cena and the referee calls for the bell. During the chaos Kane accidentally punches Orton and Reigns accidentally spears Cena. Orton and Kane are left standing in the ring alone when Orton hits an "RKO" on Kane. Orton celebrates but then turns right into a Reigns "Spear". RAW ends with Reigns standing alone.

***Recap Note***
During the handicap match, Rollins was clotheslined over the top rope and it looked like he landed wrong on his leg. WWE medical was checking on Rollins during the whole ending of the main event.
******

And that wraps up this weeks RAW. If you get time please check out my recent review on the signing of KENTA with the WWE. Till next time tap or snap.

-Swagger Like us, No one in the NFL got Swagger like us! Browns Vice President of fan expirence Kevin Griffin announced a new mascot is coming to the Dawg Pound. He is a bull mastiff named Swagger the will lead the charge on the field for the 2014 NFL season. Cleveland is the 4th team in the NFL to use a live animal onto the field. The Broncos have a white Arabian horse named Thunder II, the Ravens have ravens named Rise and Conquer and the Seahawks have a hawk named Tamia. Now the Browns have Swagger, I know how the city of Cleveland feels now with Johnny Football here and LBJ. Yes, Cleveland has some swag and Swagger now.

-Browns owner and Pilot Flying J owner Jimmy Haslem have reached a agreement with the U.S Department of Justice, which says the D.O.J will NOT prosecute Pilot Flying J or Jimmy Haslem. At this time all the details of the agreement have not been disclosed. What is know is monetary damages will be paid to the companies affected over the next two years in the sum of $92 million dollars and a agreement to work with prosecution. It's obvious that Jimmy Haslem had know knowledge of the rebate scandal and will help weed out the people who put him and his business in jeopardy.

-The Ohio State Buckeyes have a chance to put some new hardware in their trophy case this season. The NCAA has announced that a new National Championship trophy will be presented this year. It's far removed from the Chrystal football that has been seen kisses by Matt Wilhelm and Mike Doss in the past, but is definitely an upgrade and something different that hopefully the Bucks can still kiss and pass around.

-Oakland's Yoenis Cespedes took home his 2nd straight Home Run Derby championship, beating Cincinnati's Todd Frazier 9-1 in the final round. The last player to win in back to back years was Ken Griffey Jr. in 1998 and 1999.

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon: KENTA Comes To WWE

WWE's Next Rising Son?

Kenta Kobayashi, or just simply KENTA, as he goes by in the ring, has arrived in the WWE. This passed weekend while touring Japan, the WWE made a stop on tour in Osaka for a live show. While in Osaka, it was only fitting to have a contract signing held for one of the biggest professional wrestling stars in Japan, maybe even the world, KENTA.

For the past few months, rumors circulated throughout the wrestling world that KENTA was showing interest in the WWE. Original rumors stated, however, that he had no interest in actually signing, he was just interested in working out at WWE's current Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. How quickly things changed.

Back to Osaka, this past Saturday. The WWE brought out the big guns, the "24 inch python" big guns to be exacted. Hulk Hogan and "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart met with KENTA inside the squared circle, seated at a table, official WWE contract in hand. Hogan and Hart served as the special ambassadors for the contract signing as KENTA put ink to paper and officially became a WWE superstar. After the contract signing was official, the WWE released the official statement, confirming that KENTA would train at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Afterwards, KENTA will join the NXT roster.

WWE Executive Vice President of talent, creative and live events, Triple H, who landed the KENTA signing, stated the following: "KENTA is an incredible performer who brings the crowd to its feet when he steps into the ring. WWE's signing of KENTA reflects our continued dedication to creating a diverse roster that appeals to our global fan base."
After signing his new WWE contract, KENTA stated the following: "I am humbled to join WWE's NXT division and look forward to honing my craft with the global leader in sports-entertainment."

Now the big question is can the WWE utilize KENTA correctly? KENTA is known for his aggressive in ring work, which WWE is well known for watering down. In the past we've seen Japanese stars such as Ultimo Dragon, Yoshihiro Tajiri, Taka Michinoku and Funaki, either watered down or turned into the comedy skit of the night. If you're not familiar at all with KENTA and his in ring work, I would highly compare him as Japan's version of CM Punk and Daniel Bryan rolled into one. KENTA even performs a lot of moves that are in Punk and Bryan's arsenal. KENTA is very talented and could definitely give a five star match any given night. There is however a language barrier, as KENTA is weak on the English language. But hey that's a job that would be perfect for the second greatest manager of all time, Paul Heyman. Heyman has been known to serve as the mouth piece for some of today's top stars that might need a hand in presenting themselves by word of mouth.
Performance wise, KENTA has performed in Ring of Honor but is best known for his work and title victories in Japan's Pro-Wrestling Noah. Now KENTA has his chance at becoming an American household name in the WWE. Best of luck to you KENTA!

In closing here's a sample of KENTA's work: ROH THROWBACK THURSDAY - LOW KI VS KENTA

The Stats:

The Raven Report 7.14.14: NBA Free Agency & More

-As everyone knows, LeBron James announced Friday that he is returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers. James has agreed to a two-year, $42.1 million deal with the team with the goal of re-signing with the Cavs before the 2016-17 season when a new television contract is expected to create a large jump in value of the maximum.

As part of the deal, James will have an option to become a free agent next summer but is fully committed to the Cavs long term.

Depending on how the new television contracts are put together, the salary cap is supposed to leap to as high as $80 million in 2016. There is also uncertainty with the current collective bargaining agreement starting in 2017, another reason James wanted to keep his long-term options open when it comes to the structure of his contract.

Because of James' off-court earnings, which top $40 million per year according to some estimates, allows for him to take some short-term risk to maximize long-term earnings.

As for the rest of the free agent movement, it goes as follows:

Carmelo Anthony agreed to a 5 year, $122M deal to stay with the New York Knicks
Chris Bosh agreed to a 5 year, $118M deal to stay with the Miami Heat

Pau Gasol agreed to 3 year, $22M with the Chicago Bulls
Luol Deng agreed to a 2 year, $20M deal with the Miami Heat

Chandler Parsons agreed to a 3 year, $46M deal with the Dallas Mavericks
Nikola Mirotic will come from Real Madrid to sign with the Chicago Bulls for 3 years, $17M
Isaiah Thomas signed with the Phoenix Suns for 4 years, $27M
Mario Chalmers re-signed with the Miami Heat for 2 years, $8M
Trevor Ariza agreed to a 4 year, $32M deal with the Houston Rockets
Paul Pierce signed with the Washington Wizards for 2 years, $11M
Caron Butler is expected to sign a 2 year, $9M deal with the Detroit Pistons
Chris Anderson agreed to re-sign with the Miami Heat
Kirk Hinrich re-signed with the Chicago Bulls
Richard Jefferson agreed to a 1 year deal with the Dallas Mavericks
D.J. Augustin agreed to a 2 year, $6M deal with the Detroit Pistons
Vince Carter signed with the Memphis Grizzlies for 3 years, $12.2M
Nick Young re-signed with the Los Angeles Lakers for 4 years, $21.5M
Jordan Hill re-signed with the Los Angeles Lakers for 2 years, $18M
Devin Harris agreed to a one year deal with the Dallas Mavericks
Brian Roberts signed with the Charlotte Hornets for 2 years, $5.5M
Anthony Morrow will sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder for 3 years, $10M
Greivis Vasquez re-signed with the Toronto Raptors on a 2 year, $13M deal
James Johnson agreed to a 2 year, $5M deal with the Toronto Raptors
Steve Blake agreed to a deal with the Portland Trail Blazers
Beno Udrih agreed to a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies
Marvin Williams agreed to a 2 year, $14M deal with the Charlotte Hornets
P.J. Tucker signed a 3 year, $16.5M deal with the Phoenix Suns
Kent Bazemore signed with the Atlanta Hawks for 2 years, $4M
Matt Bonner re-signed to a the San Antonio Spurs with a 1 year deal

-Germany won the 2014 FIFA World Cup! It's the 4th World Cup title for the Germans. Mario Gotze scored the game-winning goal in the 113th minute of extra time.

-"I'm coming home" is the theme in Cleveland, Akron and Canton right now. My friend Wayne Allgood and I made a trip to Akron yesterday and the digital billboards on I-71 all read the same. He's back! 9 of the top 10 trends on Twitter read #welcomehome #LebronJames #Cavs #Wiggins #Cleveland #for6iven #anthonybennett #rayallen #kingjames. The news broke around 12:15pm on Friday. You heard it on the radio and you seen it on all the tv shows. It went from soap operas to Lebron coverage. Program directors went from regularly scheduled programming to a Lebron media circus. ESPN's Josina Anderson was in Cleveland just moments after the announcement standing in front of the "Q" and fans were rabid and excited. Bron' is expected to sign a full 4 year $88 million dollar max contract. Sportscenter literally turned into LebronCenter. Cleveland is the hottest city in the United States right now. With Johnny "F'N" football and LBJ in Cleveland, "What's not to like?" to quate Nick Gilbert. So what's next for the Cavs? Mike Miller? Kevin Love? Ray Allen? Trading Andrew Wiggins? Who knows but Cleveland looks like a pretty good place to play in right now. How will the Cavs react with the Princeton style offense that Byron Scott tried to implement and it failed? It can't be any worse than Mike Brown's "stanky leg." Oh yeah Cavs season ticket sales have obviously seen a spike in prices and fans are asked to deposit $200 per season. Will Lebron's personal reporter Brian Windhorst make a comeback too? The Cavs are 4-1 odds of winning the NBA championship this year. The biggest increase in NBA history. Season tickets were sold out in 8 hours up hearing the news of Lebron James' return.

-Nick Swisher and the Indians rolled past the Chicago White Sox 7-4. Swisher went 2-4 with a 2 run home run. David Murphy also went yard for the Tribe. The Indians are playing .500 ball for the first time since June 30th, improving to 46-46. Cory Kluber made the start for the Wahoos and gave up 4 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings pitched. Kluber improved his record to 9-6 with Cody Allen recording his 11th save on the season.

-Former Browns quarterback Kelly Holcomb wants to see a healthy Brian Hoyer be the Browns starting quarterback for the 2014 season. Will Hoyer's knee be healthy enough to win the job? Or will Johhny Manziel's swag be to much for Hoyer to handle?

-The deal to acquire Mike Miller for the Cavs should be finalized by Monday. Chris "Birdman" Anderson and Ray Allen are also targets that LBJ is recruiting.

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon,7.11.14: TNA Impact

It's Friday afternoon and I'm back for the TNA Impact recap. TNA Impact took place in Bethelem, Pennsylvania this week. Last week, Kurt Angle announced that every title except for the TNA World Title would be on the line on Impact. Angle also announced a 20 man battle royal to determine a new #1 Contender to Bobby Lashley's TNA World Title. Let's get this week's Impact recap started.

- Impact kicked off with wrestling's only Olympic Gold Medalist and current man in charge, Kurt Angle. Angle again runs down tonight's huge card and promises the winner of tonight's 20 man battle royal will get their shot at TNA World Champion, Bobby Lashley, next week on Impact in New York City. Kurt Angle next calls out Jeff "Willow" Hardy to the ring. Hardy comes to the ring dressed as his "Willow" character. Angle mentions that "Willow" is in tonight's battle royal, however, Angle would like to see Jeff Hardy compete as Jeff Hardy and not in his "Willow" character. Angle felt that "Willow" was a way for Hardy to let out his anger on MVP and Dixie. Angle assured him he didn't need to worry anymore. Jeff Hardy accepts Angle's wishes and shakes his hand.

- "TNA World Tag Team Championship Match": The Wolves (c) vs Magnus and Bram. Eddie Edwards scores a rollup pinfall on Bram to retain the tag team titles. After the match, Bram flips out because he lost and attacks Edwards and Davey Richards. Magnus finally pulls Bram off The Wolves and drags him out.

- Bobby Roode cuts a promo in the next segment. Roode talks about MVP suspending him, how MVP is not his boss anymore and how last week he wanted a match against MVP but MVP hid behind his doctor's note. Roode gives MVP to the count of 10 to come out or else he'll go looking for him. MVP appears on the ramp in a wheelchair and blames Roode for his leg still being injured because it was almost healed before Roode attacked him, re-injuring it. Roode doesn't care as he heads up the ramp to get MVP. Kenny King runs out but gets laid out by Roode. Roode rolls MVP to the ring and dumps him out of his wheelchair. Kenny King hits a chair shot on Roode from behind and sets Roode up for free shots from MVP. Eric Young hits the ring and brawls with King. EY goes for MVP but eats a spear from Bobby Lashley, who arrived for the save.

- "TNA X-Division Championship Match": Sanada (c) vs Austin Aries. Aries hits the 450 splash on Sanada to score the pinfall. Aries is the NEW TNA X-Division Champion. Aries now will have the chance to cash in the TNA X-Division Title for a TNA World Title Match at a later date.

- Bully Ray cuts a promo in the next segment. Bully says he thought Rhino was his friend and he wanted answers on why he turned on him last week. Rhino comes out with Rockstar Spud and Ethan Carter III. Rhino accuses Bully of being a con man who has conned everyone he's worked with. Bully says Rhino solded out cause of jealousy, Rhino is responsible for all the screw ups in his own career and Rhino was once hardcore but now he's a bitch. Ethan Carter III tells Bully the reason Rhino is here is because his family needs money and he will supply it for him every week just to beat up Bully Ray. Bully threatens to take out ECIII but gets a "Gore" from Rhino. The trio attack Bully until Tommy Dreamer hits the ring with a Singapore cane in his hand. Dreamer smacked it over Rhino's skull and chases the trio from the ring.

- "TNA Knockouts Championship Match, Fatal 4 Way": Gail Kim (c) vs Angelina Love vs Brittany vs Madison Rayne. Everyone hits big moves on each other setting up Gail Kim. Kim hits "Eat Defeat" on Angelina for the pinfall. Gail Kim retains her TNA Knockouts Title.

- "20 Man Battle Royal, #1 Contenders Match":The final four come down to Bobby Roode, Kenny King, Jeff Hardy and Eric Young. MVP hits Roode with his crutch, King tosses Roode out. EY rushes in and dumps King out and we're left with EY and Hardy as the final two. EY charges at Hardy and sails over the ropes as Hardy dodges. EY hangs onto the ropes and is still in. Hardy hits a missile drop kick sending EY to the floor. Jeff Hardy wins the TNA World Title shot next week. Hardy is interviewed after the match and gets interrupted by TNA World Champion, Bobby Lashley. Hardy and Lashley have a stare down as Impact comes to a close.

And that wraps up this edition of TNA Impact recap for this week. I'm looking forward to the Hardy vs Lashley match next week. Be sure to check back next Friday for the TNA Impact recap and read the highlights. Until then tap or snap.
