On The Mark 5.4.15: Cleveland #Browns 2015 #NFLDraft Review

By @MarkW2112

The Cleveland Browns came away with 12 new players during the 2015 NFL Draft this past week.  Each player filled a need for the team and, in many ways, upgraded those positions drastically.  Here is the final list of new players:

Danny Shelton, DT, Washington
1st Round, #12 pick overall
Danny came in to the draft as the second best DT next to Leonard Williams.  At 339 pounds, he is exactly what the Browns need to try and plug up their run defense which was, yet again, horrific last year after Phil Taylor went down with injuries.  The Browns will see if he does live up to the Halata Ngata comparisons.

Cameron Erving, C, Florida State
1st Round, #19 pick overall:
The Browns went in to meltdown mode on the offensive side of the ball last year when Alex Mack went down with a broken leg.  Which is why they drafted the versatile center who played left tackle in 2013.  Projected to play right guard in 2015, he should have no problems transitioning to center if/when Mack opts out of his contract after this season.

Nate Orchard, OLB, Utah
2nd round, #51 overall
Orchard led the nation in sacks with 18.5 for the Utes.  He was projected to play in a 3-4 defense as an OLB pass rusher which should be a perfect fit for him to take over as Jabaal Sheard's replacement.  He'll join fellow Ute alumni Paul Krueger as the Browns look for more sacks in the coming season.

Duke Johnson, RB, Miami.
3rd round, #77 overall
After losing out on getting Chris Conley from Georgia when Kansas City traded in front of them, the Browns selected Johnson, who's excellent vision and good hands will give the Browns a complimentary weapon in the backfield if not their new starting RB in 2015.  He left Miami as a their all time leader rusher with an average of 6.69 YPC during his 3 years.  He will also see time as a return man on special teams if not their new punt returner.

Xavier Cooper, DT, Washington State
3rd round, #97 overall
The Browns traded picks to the New England Patriots to move back up in to the third round and select Cooper who was a possible pick for the Cincinnati Bengals at #99.  Cooper brings in the potential to be a disruptive pass rusher as he had 11 sacks last season.  He's a former TE and basketball player who has quick feet and excellent hand technique.  He should fit in perfectly with what the Browns are looking for as a rotational defensive end.

Ibraheim Campbell, S, Northwestern
4th round, #115 overall
Looking to upgrade the safety position as well as an heir apparent to Donte Whitner, the Browns took Campbell as their first fourth round pick.  He will work well on special teams as his tackling as improved over time at Northwestern.  Projected in the 7th round, the Browns may have reached but obviously see potential in what some have called a "poor mans Landon Collins".

Vince Mayle, WR, Washington State
4th round, #123 overall
Mayle has only been a receiver for 2 years but had 2 games where he had 252 receiving yards last year.  While Combine 40 time wasn't impressive, he appears to have a surprisingly quick burst once he gets the ball.  He will come in projected as the fourth or fifth receiver option but should see work as a kick returner on special teams his first year.

Charles Gaines, CB, Louisville
6th round, #189 overall
For Mike Pettine, you can never have enough cornerbacks.  Which is why Gaines was chosen as the first of three 6th round picks for the Browns.  Gaines was a projected third round pick so the Browns got good value from him.  He could contribute to special teams as well as a possible nickelback if Justin Gilbert continues to struggle.

Malcolm Johnson, TE, Mississippi St.
6th round, #195 overall
Johnson will more than likely be used as an H back/fullback more than a true tight end.  Known for his good hands and a vocal leader with MSST, he has the potential to bring some blocking in to create holes for the running backs and another special team specialist.

Randall Telfer, TE, USC
6th round, #198 overall
Telfer only had 197 yards receiving but looks to be more of a blocking tight end.

Hayes Pullard, ILB, USC
7th round, 219 overall
Going back to USC, the Browns took Pullard to bring in as a backup ILB.  Had some success but doesn't appear to be anything more than special teams depth at this time.

Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB, Oregon
7th round, 241 overall
In what could be the steal of the draft, the Browns selected Ekpre-Olomu with their final selection.  If not for a severe knee injury he could have been a first round pick.  He is a tenacious player that could be a starter, possibly at safety, if he is able to come back from the knee injury.  Defintely a low risk/high reward pick for the Browns.

My take:  The Browns went out and drafted football players.  Nothing flashy, just guys who were solid in their college careers.  They may have drafted themselves at least 3-4 players that could be starters this year.  Obviously, the quarterback position wasn't addressed but it appears the Browns are all in with McCown and Manziel in 2015.  But they more than addressed their defensive efficiencies, strengthened their offensive line and grabbed a wide receiver.  The Browns had an excellent approach by drafting  immediate starters in the first 2 rounds as well as thinking of the future.

Draft grade: B+

By @B_Rock1978

It's the Weekend 3 Count, brought to you by Triple Threat CLE. The W3C, brings you news and rumors going on around the wrestling world. Whether it's WWE, TNA, GFW, ROH, Lucha Underground or the independent wrestling scene, I'll talk about it.

*** Weekend Flashback ***

- This weekend it was all about Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao in the boxing world. This week's flashback, I'm taking you back to Wrestlemania 24. Mayweather made a special appearance at the Super Bowl of wrestling and took on Big Show one on one.

*** WWE News and Rumors ***

- This past weekend at Extreme Rules, we seen the crowning of new WWE World Tag Team Champions. The New Day defeated Tyson Kidd and Cesaro to capture the tag titles. WWE have already began talking about The New Day enforcing the old "Freebird Rule". Meaning any two men of the three man group can defend the tag titles any given night.

- The King Of The Ring returned this past week. The tournament kicked off the first round on RAW and concluded the next night on the WWE Network. Semi Final action saw Bad News Barrett defeat R-Truth and Neville defeat Sheamus. Later in the Finals, Bad News Barrett defeated Neville and became the 2015 King Of The Ring.

- WWE have stated that they are planning to show more live events in the future on WWE Network much like they did for the King of the Ring. More advantages of subscribing to WWE Network.

- Where's Paul Heyman? According to WWE rumors, Heyman may be kept off of tv for the time being until July. With Brock Lesnar serving his current indefinite suspension, WWE have no plans for a Paul Heyman sighting anytime soon.

- Daniel Bryan was removed from his original RAW and Smackdown scheduled apperances this week. WWE is still not commenting on the seriousness of Bryan's injury, or even stating what the injury even is.

- Chris Jericho Podcast: This past Thursday night on the WWE Network, Chris Jericho hosted another live podcast show. Jericho's guest this week was the billion dollar princess herself, Mrs. Triple H, Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie talked about grewing up in the WWE, watching her dad, Vince McMahon, work everyday, her bond with her brother, Shane McMahon, dating Triple H, her breast implant surgery and working with Ronda Rousey at Wrestlemania 31.

- WWE is claiming that they have just about guaranteed Samoa Joe signing with WWE soon. Many think he will be debuting in NXT in June sometime.

- WWE are being rumored to possibly turning Lana face and giving her a new gimmick. Vince McMahon has stated that he would love to have her as the face of the Divas and give her a new name and gimmick. One possible idea is having Lana dump Rusev, announce that she's not really Russian and side with America. Hope it's a very good reason they come up with of why she faked being Russian and they just don't say "BOOM I'm American now".

- CBS Radio announced that they will be picking up Booker T.'s podcast, titled "Heated Conversations". CBS currently runs Taz's "Human Podcast Machine" show and soon to be the home of Ric Flair's "Wooo Nation" show.

- Jeff Jarrett has however been reaching out to possible talent that would be a good GFW fit. Scott D'Amore and Sonjay Dott have been working the office part of GFW and contacting possible talent. Jarrett has stated to be very interested in Roderick Strong, Chris Masters, Shelton Benjamin and Team 3D.

- GFW will be holding a press conference in the up coming week in regards to their July 24th tv taping.

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, 5.2.15: #TNA #ImpactWrestling Recap

By @B_Rock1978

- This week's Impact was taped at the Impact Zone in Orlando, Florida. This week was also TNA's yearly Hardcore Justice event.

- Impact opens up with the participants in the opening match already brawling down the ramp.

- "Six Man, No DQ Match": Davey Richards and The Hardy Boys vs. Revolution: The Hardy's hit "Poetry In Motion" on Abyss, as Richards holds a chair in front of Abyss' face. Matt hits "Twist of Fate" as Jeff goes up top, but Manik crotches Jeff on the ropes. Jeff gets slammed, as Matt hits a chair shot on Khoya. Abyss takes a hit, then Matt hits Khoya with a trash can.
We see a tower of doom spot, Richards hits "Creeping Death", then dives to the floor and takes out Abyss. Manik kicks Matt, then goes for a springboard, but Matt counters with a "Side Effect". Richards hits a top rope double stomp. Abyss lays Richards out with a choke slam, then goes for a splash on Jeff. Jeff hits Abyss with a chair, hits the "Swanton Bomb" and scores the pin.

- Mr. Anderson makes fun of Ethan Carter III's campaign at getting a World Title shot. EC3 cuts off Anderson. Anderson tells EC3 to win the title by earning it. EC3 is unbeaten and feels he deserves it. Anderson challenges EC3 to a match and Anderson suggests the fans get to vote for the stipulation. EC3 doesn't like the fan idea, but agrees anyway.

- "TNA X-Division Championship, Ladder Match": Rockstar Spud (c) vs. Mark Andrews vs Tigre Uno vs Kenny King: Andrews hits a shooting star press to the floor. Andrews and King fight over the ladder. Uno springboards the ladder into their faces. Spud takes a ladder shot to the gut. King stomps Andrews, but Andrews slams King into a ladder. Andrews climbs up for the title, but Uno stops him and hits a moonsault side slam. King knocks Spud off the ladder, as Uno springboards onto the ladder. Spud punches and bites King and climbs up for the title. Homicide hits the ring and knocks Spud off the ladder and onto a second ladder. King climbs up, grabs the title and Kenny King is the NEW TNA X-Division Champion.

- Eric Young is out with a stretcher. EY says the world title did change him, he's a proven world class champion and athlete, he's taken out Bobby Lashley, Bobby Roode, Austin Aries and now it's Kurt Angle's turn, so EY can get back his world title. EY promises to end Angle's career.

- Rockstar Spud says the BDC stole his title, that ment everything to him. Spud says he won't stop till he gets back the TNA X-Division Championship.

- "TNA Knockouts Championship Match": Taryn Terrell (c) vs. Brooke: Brooke hits a neckbreaker for a near fall. Brooke continues to work on Taryn, as Marti gets on the apron. The referee tries to get rid of Marti, as Jade attacks Brooke from behind. Taryn hits a suplex and a rolling neckbreaker for a near fall. Brooke goes for "Asstastic", but Taryn rolls to the floor. Brooke suicide dives to the floor and wipes out the whole Dollhouse. Brooke goes back up top, but gets shoved off by Jade. Taryn hits the diving cutter and scores the pin to retain the TNA Knockouts Championship.

- "Pipe On A Pole Match": Low Ki vs. Drew Galloway: Galloway attacks Low Ki and sends him into the barricade. Low Ki counters a suplex on a chair and shoves Galloway into the corner. Low Ki goes for the pipe, but gets slammed by Galloway. Galloway goes for a superplex, but Low Ki counters and hits "Warrior's Way" on a chair. The pipe falls down and both men go for it. Galloway counters another "Warrior's Way" attempt and fallaway slams Low Ki while in a tree of woe. Galloway goes to use the pipe, but Low Ki lands a kick. Low Ki tries to use the pipe, but Galloway counters, lands a kick and "Future Shock" to score the pin.

- After The Match: The BDC beat down Galloway, until Mika and Eli hit the ring and make the save.

- A video shows Mickie James and James Storm running into each other at a supermarket.

- Magnus wants to talk about Mickie James and James Storm, but is immediately cut off by Storm. Magnus is pissed at Storm. Storm says its not his fault the fans want Mickie for one more match and it's not his fault that a camera crew seen Storm and Mickie run into each other at the supermarket. Storm says he's known Mickie a lot longer then Magnus, so maybe Magnus should ask Mickie what's going on.

- "Stretcher Match": Kurt Angle vs. Eric Young: EY and Angle fight at ringside, until finally taking it in the ring. EY counters a multiple clothesline series from Angle and tosses him into the corner. EY goes to the floor and sends Angle into the steel steps. EY grabs the stretcher, then goes for a piledriver. Angle counters and hits the "Angle Slam" on EY on the floor. Angle puts EY on the stretcher, but EY gets off. Angle goes for a suplex, but EY counters and tosses Angle into an exposed turnbuckle. EY hits two piledrivers and straps Angle onto the stretcher to pick up the victory.

And that closed out this week's TNA Impact.

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon 5.1.15: #SmackDown & #NXT Recap

By @B_Rock1978

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, brought to you by Triple Threat CLE.  It's this week's NXT and Smackdown recaps for the week.

*** NXT ***

- NXT was taped in Orlando Florida, at Full Sail University.

- In Ring Promo with Kevin Owens: Owens talks about how he was about to end Alex Riley last week and everyone's hero, Sami Zayn, made the save. Owens calls out Zayn, but NXT GM William Regal appears instead. Regal tells Owens he doesn't make the rules around here, Regal does. Owens sarcastically apologizes and says he doesn't remember calling Regal out, he called out Sami Zayn. Zayn appears and he heads to the ring. Regal announces at the next Takover pay per view, it'll be Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens for the NXT World Title. Owens says he'll fight, but Zayn hasn't done anything to deserve a title shot. Zayn says everything he's done the past twelve years Kevin Owens has tried to achieve too and it looks like Owens is trapped in Zayn's shadow. Zayn continues to throw reasons for Owens to put up the title and Owens finally agrees to it.

- Enzo Amore, Big Cass and Carmella are talking. Carmella says she can handle herself and tells Enzo and Cass to leave. Rollins gets shoved into Kane, Mercury and Noble and Ambrose goes for a suicide dive. Ambrose gets sent into the barricade and Kane grabs Ambrose and Rollins by the throat. Ambrose shoves Kane into the ring post and sends Mercury and Noble over the announcers table. Rollins steps in and shoves Ambrose into the steel steps. Leadoff with Lee 5.1.15 #Shelton #Browns #NFLDraft #BillyDonovan #Game7

By @cleeverizon
- With the 12th pick in the draft the Cleveland Browns went with run stopper Danny Shelton from Washington.

Here's what we need to know about Shelton courtesy of NFL.com:
COMBINE RESULTS
40 YARD DASH: 5.64 SEC
BENCH PRESS: 34 REPS
VERTICAL JUMP: 30.5 INCH
BROAD JUMP: 95.0 INCH
3 CONE DRILL: 7.99 SEC
20 YARD SHUTTLE: 4.65 SEC

STRENGTHS
Bends well for a big man and has ability to play with leverage. Space-eater who is able to maintain good positioning against double teams. Consistently gets his hands inside offensive linemen first. Controls, sees it and sheds to make tackles. Surprising ability to swat cut blocks and chase stretch plays laterally. Played a high percentage of Washington's defensive snaps. Has the strength and athleticism to dominate in the running game.

WEAKNESSES
Despite girth and leverage potential, can be a little inconsistent at getting push off snap. Dominates lesser centers but doesn't seem to look nearly as dominant against more talented centers. Will quit on a play when he's blocked. Produced eye-catching sack numbers for his position in 2014, but much of it was against lesser competition. Must work to keep weight in check.

NFL COMPARISON
Vince Wilfork

BOTTOM LINE
With his thick frame and powerful upper body, Shelton has moments where he can dominate at the point of attack. He was forced to chase sideline to sideline due to the nature of Pac-12 offenses, but when he faced downhill competition like Stanford, he stepped up. Shelton is an above average interior pass rusher for a man his size thanks to his surprising athleticism. He is a fit in a two-gap scheme and could benefit from playing fewer snaps than he was forced to play at Washington.

- With the 19th pick the Browns chose offensive lineman Cam Erving from Florida State. Erving is a versitle lineman who will compete for a job on the right side of the offensive line, and may be the Browns center of the future considering Alex Mack will be a free agent after next season.

HT: 6'5" WT: 313LBS.

He came to Florida State as an unheralded defensive tackle from Colquitt County (Ga.) and redshirted in 2010 after a back injury. In 2011, had 20 tackles and a sack as a backup defensive tackle. Switched to the offensive side of the ball to help shore up Seminoles' pass protection in 2012 and started all 14 games at left tackle, protecting future first-round QB EJ Manuel's blind side. In 2013, started all 13 games at left tackle and was named first-team All-ACC for the national champion Seminoles. Two-time winner of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy given to the ACC's top blocker. Named first-team All-ACC tackle and third-team All-ACC center after making switch inside toward the end of the 2014 season.
