Did you really think this was going to end well? I did to be honest.

It was only a matter of time before the Cleveland Browns tossed quarterback Johnny Manziel to the side of the road and said, “Find your own ride.”

The words “his status” and “will be addressed” all but told us that Manziel will be gone when the new season officially starts on March 9. On that day, the salary cap will increase, allowing for Cleveland to get rid of the 23-year-old who many thought two years ago could be the team’s franchise quarterback.
Some fans may ask, why don't the Browns release him the day after the Super Bowl?

The Browns have no salary cap room because they have carried over $18M to the 2016 league year which starts Mar 9th. The Browns will eat $4,624,170 in cap when Manziel is released in March. He has told people the Dallas Cowboys, LA Rams and Kansas City Chiefs are interested in him.

According to league sources, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick wants out of San Francisco after a forgettable 2015 that included on-field struggles that resulted in a benching midway through the season and a coaching change after it. According to sources, the Jets are his preferred destination. If this potential draft day trade happens, there is a possibility that free agent to be Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel may find a home in the Bay area.

Why does this make sense? He was highly recruited out of high school before deciding on Texas A&M. Other offers he received came from Colorado State, Baylor Louisiana Tech, Iowa, Rice, Tulsa,Wyoming and Stanford. Although he was a cornerback/quarterback, Texas wanted him bad. Manziel was originally committed to play for Oregon, he later changed his commitment to the Aggies. The simple connection is Chip Kelly wanted Manziel out of college. So, to me, I'm sure he wants to give him a try in running his offense.

Now that the Browns have their head coach in place, now it's up to Hue Jackson and Jimmy Haslam to hire a general manager/player personnel executive or whatever title they plan on using.

Sources close to the situation say Browns are set to interview former Martin Mayhew on Saturday. He joined the Lions front office in 2001 and was promoted to  senior Vice President and assistant general manager in 2004. Mayhew was promoted to general manager after Matt Millen was fired in December of 2008. Mayhew was fired November 5, 2015 when the Lions started the season 1-7. He was 41-63 while serving as general manager.  An internal candidate for a promotion could be current personnel executive Chisom Opara. The Browns also requested permission to speak with the Bears current director of college scouting, Joe Douglas, for their top personnel job, but were denied.

Without final say on Browns roster, general manager spot isn't easy to fill. Teams will view it as lateral move and will block interviews.

Quarterback coach Kevin O'Connell will not be retained after only one NFL season. Hue Jackson is bringing his own guy. Jackson was interviewing candidates on Thursday. Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and Tennessee coordinator Ray Horton are names that have appeared to become the Browns new defensive coordinator under Jackson.

Will the Browns draft a wide receiver with their first overall pick? Let's put this in perspective.

Josh Gordon, who has been away from the Cleveland Browns his entire suspension, is scheduled to make $1.068M in 2016. There is your big wideout that you have been looking for if a top name is not drafted.

The 49ers have hired Chip Kelly as their new head coach. Kelly went 26-21 in three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was fired this past season with one game remaining in the season and missing the playoffs.

Meanwhile, talks between Tom Coughlin and the Eagles intensified when Philadelphia had a face-to-face meeting with Coughlin. After meeting with Eagles brass, Coughlin withdrew his name from consideration for Eagles head coaching job. Sources say it's just not the right fit, with being away from his family being the biggest issue. The Eagles are now are expected to name Chiefs offensive coordinator, and former Cleveland Browns quarterback, Doug Pederson as their next head coach once the Chiefs are eliminated from the playoffs.

Former Indians pitcher Scott Atchison will join the team as a Major League advance coach and staff assistant. Atchison will assist bullpen coach Jason Bere and pitching coach Mickey Callaway and scouting the team's upcoming opponents.

The Indians and Bryan Shaw find common ground on a one-year, $2.75M contract to avoid arbitration.

Former Cavs and Hawks general manager Danny Ferry is being considered for the same position with the New Jersey Nets. Ferry was interviewed by Mikhail Prokhorov for the job back in 2010 before hiring Billy King.

The NBA has a new 'Iron Man' and his name is Tristan Thompson. He has now played in the most consecutive games 324 after DeAndre Jordan missed Wednesday nights game with pneumonia.

Alabama running back Derrick Henry will enter the 2016 NFL draft. The Heisman trophy runner helped the Crimson Tide roll to the College Football National Championship. In his 3 years at Alabama he rushed for 3,591 yards,17 receptions for 285 yards and scoring 45 touchdowns.

Mark Davis owner of the Oakland Raiders has secured a parcel of land 80 miles between San Antonio and Austin Texas for the possible relocation of the Raiders. This maybe a strong arm move by Davis to force the city of Oakland to finance the team with a new stadium.

Nike has agreed to extend Ohio State Universities sponsorship deal for 15 years worth $252M. Ohio State will receive $103M not including royalties in cash and $112M in product. The agreement, most of which will take effect with the 2018-2019 season, includes more than $41 million in commitments beyond the Buckeyes’ athletic department to include scholarships and internships for non-athletes at Ohio State.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly was fired Tuesday night, just before the end of a disappointing season that had Super Bowl expectations.

The 6-9 Eagles will have their final game of the season coached by former Browns coach Pat Shurmer. The Eagles kept Chip Kelly's firing quiet. Owner Jeff Lurie was able to break it to season ticket holders with an email at 7:12pm Tuesday night. Lurie says that the team will begin the coaching search asap. He, team president Don Smolenski and top executive Howie Roseman will lead the coaching search.Former Bills General Manager Tom Donohoe takes over as the Eagles' Senior director of player personnel after the Chip Kelly firing. Kelly was  26-21 over 3 seasons with a playoff appearance and 2 top-5 offenses.

Chip Kelly's record as an NFL head coach is better than Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll, Sean Payton & Ron Rivera in their first three seasons. Kelly has two years and roughly $13 million left on his contract. Chip Kelly was the Browns' top and only choice for coach before Rob Chudzinski was picked as a panic replacement in 2013. Vice President of player personnel Ed Marynowitz was also fired.

Some NFL destinations for Chip Kelly could be Miami, San Francisco, Tennessee and Indianapolis if Chuck Pagano is let go. Todd Haley, Sean McDermott and Josh McDaniels are possible candidates for Eagles head coaching job. Interesting words from Chip Kelly:

Now let's work a possible Chip Kelly/Browns scenario: Browns name Kelly as the new head coach. He already has stated he doesn't want be the personnel de facto general manager. Why not let him help select the new general manager? It's not as odd as you may think. When a coach assists in hiring a new general manager they are on the same page with and trust each other. Andy Reid reunited with Ron Dorsey from Green Bay when they were apart of the coaching staff and was named general manager in Kansas City, Pete Carroll helped hire John Schneider as general manager in Seattle. Could that model  work in Cleveland? Possibly. But would that come under the consultation of Ron Wolf? That also means the Browns clean house and fire Farmer and Pettine. What other choices do the Browns have right now?
