Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, 4.15.16: NXT & SmackDown

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, brought to you by Triple Threat CLE, is here with your NXT Recap Edition.

This week's NXT took place at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida. "Double A" Austin Aries, took on Angelo Dawkins in a one on one match. Alexa Bliss battled Tessa Blanchard, who is the daughter of Four Horsemen legend, Tully Blanchard. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa battled The Vaudevillains in tag team action. Baron Corbin faced Tucker Knight in one on one action. Bayley took on Liv Morgan in Women's Division action. The main event saw Shinsuke Nakamura battle Tye Dillinger.

*** NXT ***

- Austin Aries vs. Angelo Dawkins: Double A, Austin Aries is coming off of his win at NXT Takeover: Dallas against Baron Corbin and kicking off tonight's NXT show. The match closes out with Aries taking control, hits Dawkins with a clothesline, lands a neck breaker, hits the corner drop kick and finally hits Dawkins with the Roaring Elbow to score the pinfall.
Winner: Austin Aries, by pinfall.



- Backstage, Samoa Joe wants another shot at Finn Balor and the NXT World Championship. He plans on taking out his anger on Apollo Crews next week.

- Alexa Bliss vs. Tessa Blanchard: The match closes out with Tessa getting a near fall rollup. Tessa shoves Alexa down to the mat and looks like she's in complete control. Alexa comes back and hits the standing moonsault finished off with the double knees into Tessa. Alexa covers and scores the pinfall.
Winner: Alexa Bliss, by pinfall.

- Backstage, NXT World Champion, Finn Balor says he's curious to see who the next #1 contender will be. Balor plans to keep an eye on Japanese icon, Shinsuke Nakamura, as he figures Nakamura will be coming for Balor's title soon.

- Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa vs. The Vaudevillains: The Vaudevillains debuted on SmackDown, but still have a match in NXT this week. The match closes out with Ciampa sending English to the floor where Gargano follows, Gargano dives off the apron and hits a rolling senton on English. Gotch rolls up Ciampa from behind, gets a near fall and Ciampa does the same to Gotch for a near fall. Ciampa catches Gotch and locks in a Fujiwara arm bar submission. Ciampa switches gears and turns the arm bar into a modified arm bar submission on Gotch. Gotch has no choice but to tap out.
Winners: Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, by submission.

- Baron Corbin vs. Tucker Knight: Corbin is coming off a loss at NXT Takeover: Dallas to Austin Aries, but has recently debuted on RAW. The match closes out with Knight hitting a corner splash on Corbin and follows with a Lou Thesz press. Knight goes for a slam, but Corbin floats over and plants Knight with End Of Days. Corbin covers and scores the pinfall.
Winner: Baron Corbin, by pinfall.

- Backstage, Enzo and Big Cass ask NXT World Tag Team Champions, Jason Jordan and Chad Gable for a match. Whether it's non-title or for the titles they'd like to face the champs. Jordan and Gable accept the challenge.

- Bayley vs. Liv Morgan: Bayley is coming off of her heartbreaking loss at NXT Takeover: Dallas, where she lost her NXT Women's Championship to Asuka. The match closes out with Bayley missing an elbow on Liv in the corner. Liv goes for a side suplex on Bayley, but Bayley counters it into the Bayley-To-Belly. Bayley covers and scores the pinfall. After the match Bayley says she lost to the better woman at Takeover, but promises she'll be the NXT Women's Champion again one day.
Winner: Bayley, by pinfall.

- Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Tye Dillinger: Nakamura makes his NXT show debut, after defeating Sami Zayn at NXT Takeover: Dallas. The match closes out with Dillinger getting a near fall superkick on Nakamura. Dillinger applies a headlock takeover and switches to a rear chin lock. Nakamura gets up and dodges a Dillinger superkick. Nakamura lands an enziguri on Dillinger, hits Good Vibrations in the corner and hits the Kinshasa knee on Dillinger to score the pinfall.
Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura, by pinfall.

- This closed out this week's NXT.

This week's Smackdown took place in San Diego, California. MizTV was back this week with WWE Intercontinental Champion, The Miz, and his wife Maryse. The first round of the #1 contenders tag team tournament continued. Baron Corbin battled Zack Ryder one on one. Emma took on Paige in Women's Division action. AJ Styles battled Alberto Del Rio of the League of Nations. In the main event, Chris Jericho battled Sami Zayn in one on one action.

*** Smackdown ***

- Miz TV with The Miz and Maryse: Miz says we should praise Maryse. Maryse says Miz is awesome and it's perfection being married to him. Miz says Maryse's presence motivates Miz. Miz and Maryse continue to flirt with each other and make out when Zack Ryder interrupts. Ryder says Miz and Maryse are making everyone sick. Maryse says Ryder is jealous because Miz ruined his moment. Ryder wonders how Maryse feels that Miz wears more makeup than her and Miz can never take away his Wrestlemania moment. Ryder dares Miz to put his WWE Intercontinental Championship on the line right now. Miz and Ryder go nose to nose and Miz says it's on........but unfortunately Ryder already has a match tonight against Baron Corbin. Corbin's music hits and out comes the newcomer.

- Baron Corbin vs. Zack Ryder: The match closes out with Ryder going for the Broski Boot, but Corbin rolls to the floor. Ryder lands a dropkick on Corbin and tosses him back into the ring. Corbin drops Ryder with the End Of Days out of nowhere and scores the pinfall. After the match, Corbin grabs Ryder and goes for another End Of Days on the floor. Dolph Ziggler hits the ring and goes after Corbin. Corbin goes for End Of Days on Ziggler, but Ziggler counters. Ziggler goes for a super kick, but Corbin escapes and has a stare down from a distance with Ziggler.
Winner: Baron Corbin, by pinfall.

- Backstage, Kevin Owens says Sami Zayn was lucky Owens was escorted out of the building on RAW and no one can help Zayn tonight.

- Paige vs. Emma: The match closes out with Paige landing two side kicks, a high knee and a running knee on Emma for a near fall. Paige places Emma on the ropes, lands some punches and some headbutts. Paige goes for a superplex, but Emma drops Paige head first on the turnbuckle and scores the pinfall.
Winner: Emma, by pinfall.

- "#1 Contenders Tag Team Tournament": Enzo and Big Cass vs. The Ascension: The match closes out with Cass tagging in, hitting a shoulder tackle on Viktor and a corner splash on Konnor. Cass slams Viktor and connects with the Empire Elbow. Cass hits a flying elbow drop on Viktor and makes the cover, but Konnor breaks up the pin. Cass hits a charging big boot on Konnor, sending him to the floor and then hits a spinning side slam on Viktor. Enzo and Cass hit their double team Rocket Launcher and score the pinfall.
Winners: Enzo and Big Cass, by pinfall, to advance to the Final Four.

- Backstage, AJ Styles says he's never been in the ring with someone like Roman Reigns, but Reigns has never faced anyone like Styles either. Styles says if he gets the opportunity then he's taking it when he faces Reigns. Alberto Del Rio interrupts and says he wants to face Styles tonight, because he's not impressed with Styles. Del Rio says Styles is all hype and doesn't belong in the WWE. Styles says he's going to let what he does in the ring speak for itself.

- Alberto Del Rio vs. AJ Styles: The match closes out with Del Rio placing Styles in the tree of woe and lands rib kicks. Del Rio misses the double foot stomp and gets hit by Styles and a knee lift. Del Rio dodges the springboard forearm and goes for the cross arm breaker submission. Styles counters out, rolls up Del Rio and scores the pinfall.
Winner: AJ Styles, by pinfall.

- Backstage, Goldust tells R-Truth they're not teaming tonight. Instead he's teaming with Fandango, is kicking Truth to the curb and Fandango now goes by the name Goldango.

- "#1 Contenders Tag Team Tournament":
The Vaudevillains vs. Goldust and Fandango: The match closes out with Gotch getting an atomic drop from Fandango. Fandango hits a enziguri and a spinning heel kick on Gotch. Goldust clotheslines English to the floor, but English sends Goldust back first into the barricade. Vaudevillians connect with the Whirling Dervish and score the pinfall.
- Winners: The Vaudevillains, by pinfall, to advance to the Final Four.

- Backstage, Chris Jericho says he's had issues with AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose and Sami Zayn since returning. None of them have respect, he's still the best at what he does and reminds us of how he beat Steve Austin and The Rock both in one night.

- Chris Jericho vs. Sami Zayn: Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose were on commentary. The match closes out with Jericho hitting the bulldog, but misses the Lionsault, as Zayn got his knees up. Jericho dodges the Helluva Kick and locks Zayn in the Walls Of Jericho submission. Zayn reaches the ropes for the break. Jericho drop kicks Zayn, goes outside, shoves Ambrose out of his chair, then sends Ambrose into the barricade. Zayn sends Jericho into Owens and then sends Jericho back into the ring. Jericho lands a drop kick and slaps Zayn in the face.
Zayn hits the exploder suplex on Jericho, then goes for the Helluva Kick. Owens attacks Zayn causing a DQ and then Ambrose attacks Jericho. Owens attacks Ambrose and goes for the pop up power bomb. Zayn hits the Helluva Kick on Owens and Ambrose chases Jericho from the ring. SmackDown closes with Ambrose and Zayn standing tall.
Winner: Sami Zayn, by DQ.
