WWE Payback Preview

By Brandon Albright, @B_Rock1978

The first pay per view after Wrestlemania 33 has arrived ladies and gents! WWE Payback, the RAW only event comes to us live from the SAP Center in San Jose, California. WWE Payback will take place on the WWE Network and as always if you can't catch the show just check out Triple Threat CLE on Monday afternoon and I'll have all the WWE Payback action reviewed just for you! Let's get the preview started shall we?!

- "House of Horrors Match": Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt: After a nice build up of Randy Orton earning Bray Wyatt's trust, The Viper did what he does best, turned on Wyatt and made Wyatt his latest victim. Last month at Wrestlemania 33, Randy Orton defeated Bray Wyatt to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and became the face of Smackdown Live. One week after Wrestlemania 33, Bray Wyatt laid down a challenge to Randy Orton in the first ever House of Horrors Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which Orton accepted. The following week during the Superstar Shakeup Draft, Bray Wyatt was drafted to RAW, but his match with Randy Orton was still on, only it would take place at WWE Payback, which is an all RAW roster event. As we got closer to WWE Payback, the WWE suddenly stopped advertising this match for the title and just advertised it as a House of Horrors Match. WWE has already made a new #1 Contender for the title for their next Smackdown Live pay per view, so it's unknown as to whether this match will be for the title or just a gimmick match with revenge on the line.

- "WWE United States Championship Match": Kevin Owens (c) vs. Chris Jericho: The former best friends forever are long gone with only Owens' hatred for Jericho the only thing left remaining. Last month at Wrestlemania 33, Owens and Jericho went one on one for the WWE United States Championship, which ended with Owens defeating Jericho and winning the title. The following night on RAW, Jericho immediately cashed in his rematch clause on Owens for WWE Payback. After the announcement, Owens and Samoa Joe found Jericho backstage, beat him down and left Jericho laid out. Jericho would return a week later and get revenge on Owens the night before Owens was drafted to Smackdown Live, by laying Owens out with a Code Breaker. Smackdown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan would then go on to announce that which ever superstar walks out of WWE Payback the WWE United States Champion will have a permanent home on Smackdown Live and go on to face AJ Styles for the title. The loser of the match will be shipped back over to RAW.

- "WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match": Neville (c) vs. Austin Aries: Last month at Wrestlemania 33, Neville came out victorious over Austin Aries and successfully retained his WWE Cruiserweight Championship. One week later, Austin Aries battled it out in a #1 Contenders Fatal Four Way Match on 205 Live. Aries came out victorious and earned another shot at Neville for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Weeks leading up to WWE Payback, Neville got TJ Perkins to friend him and help him in his battle with Aries, as Perkins attacked Aries from behind after their one on one match. Neville continues to call himself the King of the Cruiserweights as Aries looks to finally dethrone the King at WWE Payback.

- "WWE RAW World Tag Team Championship Match": The Hardy Boys (c) vs. Sheamus and Cesaro: Last month at Wrestlemania 33, Matt and Jeff Hardy returned to the WWE and became the new WWE RAW World Tag Team Champions, winning a Fatal Four Way Ladder Match. The next night on RAW, Sheamus and Cesaro would go on to defeat Enzo and Big Cass in a #1 Contenders Match, earning them the next shot at The Hardy Boys. The Hardy's, Sheamus and Cesaro have all seemed to have started a friendship with each other leading into their match at WWE Payback, as both teams have displayed respect toward each other. Can The Hardy's retain their titles or will Sheamus and Cesaro regain the titles they lost a few months back?

- "WWE RAW Women's Championship Match": Bayley (c) vs. Alexa Bliss: Last month at Wrestlemania 33, Bayley retained her WWE RAW Women's Championship while Alexa Bliss lost her WWE Smackdown Live Women's Championship. Alexa Bliss arrived on RAW after being drafted over in the Superstar Shakup draft and immediately stated that she should be handed a WWE RAW Women's Championship Match. Alexa was told she needed to earn it, which she did by winning a Fatal Four Way Match to become the new #1 Contender. Alexa would then battle Bayley's best friend Sasha Banks, losing by countout on purpose just to set up Bayley to beat her down and send a message to her.

- Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman: This feud began back at the WWE Royal Rumble when Strowman viciously attacked Reigns and cost him his match against Kevin Owens. Reigns went on to defeat Strowman at WWE Fastlane back in February and it looked like the feud was over. Strowman restarted the feud after Wrestlemania 33 and targeted Roman Reigns again, looking for revenge for his WWE Fastlane defeat. Strowman viciously attacked Reigns backstage, rolled him off a loading dock strapped to a stretcher and then flipped over Reigns' ambulance with Reigns inside. RAW General Manager Kurt Angle announced that Reigns suffered a shoulder injury and some internal injuries, but still demanded a one on one match with Strowman at WWE Payback. Strowman has continued on his path of destruction with Reigns on the DL, by taking out Big Show and Kalisto.

- Seth Rollins vs. Samoa Joe: Samoa Joe arrived on RAW the night after WWE Royal Rumble, attacked Rollins and nearly cost Rollins his match against Triple H at Wrestlemania 33 after seriously injuring Rollins' leg. Rollins was able to return without any issues and targeted Samoa Joe after defeating Triple H. RAW General Manager Kurt Angle assured Seth Rollins that he and Samoa Joe were not being drafted to Smackdown Live and both were staying on RAW. After hearing the news, Joe attacked Rollins and both men brawled throughout ringside. Samoa Joe and Seth Rollins were then officially made as a match at WWE Payback so both men could finally settle their differences.

- Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson vs. Enzo and Big Cass: It was announced just days before WWE Payback that former WWE RAW World Tag Team Champions Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson will battle Enzo and Big Cass on the WWE Payback Pre-Show. Both teams have had a mini feud with each other in the first half of the year that looks to get settled at WWE Payback.

- Miz TV with The Miz and Maryse, with Special Guest Finn Balor: Miz, who was just drafted over to the RAW Brand, has promised us a new edition of Miz TV with Finn Balor, who's just returned from shoulder surgery a month ago, as his guest.

Owens tells commentator Byron Sexton that he just proved he's the better man and can now focus on getting back his WWE Intercontinental Championship.
Winner: Kevin Owens, by pinfall.

- "WWE Intercontinental Championship Match": The Miz (c) w/Maryse vs. Cesaro: Kevin Owens never leaves ringside and instead sits in on commentary. Miz spends some time in the match working over Cesaro's surgically repaired shoulder. The match closes out with Miz sending Cesaro shoulder first into the ring post and gets a near fall Skull Crushing Finale. Sami Zayn hits ringside and immediately goes after Kevin Owens. Zayn and Owens brawl around ringside and into the time keepers area. Miz gets distracted and ends up in the Cesaro Swing. Cesaro locks Miz in the cross face submission and Miz taps out...BUT...the referee is still distracted by Zayn and Owens and misses the tap out. Cesaro gets Owens and Zayn off the apron, but gets rolled up by Miz. Miz has a handful of Cesaro's tights for leverage and steals the pinfall. After the match, Cesaro nails Miz with a running uppercut and then plants Miz with The Neutralizer. Owens attacks Cesaro from behind, but Zayn makes the save. Ambrose blocks the Lionsault and goes for Dirty Deeds, but Jericho blocks it. Ambrose lands a series of knees on Jericho, hooks Jericho and finally hits Dirty Deeds to score the pinfall. After the match, Jericho throws a fit over his loss at ringside.

- "WWE Women's Championship Match": Charlotte (c) w/Ric Flair vs. Nattie Neidhart w/Bret Hart: The match closes out with Nattie going for the Sharpshooter submission, but Charlotte counters and hits Natural Selection for a near fall. Charlotte hits a top rope moonsault on Nattie, gets another near fall and gets frustrated. Charlotte applies the Figure Four submission, but Nattie fights it, stopping Charlotte from bridging into the Figure Eight. Nattie reverses the Figure Four, but Charlotte escapes and slaps Nattie in the face. Charlotte applies Nattie's own Sharpshooter submission and referee Charles Robinson pulls a Chicago Screwjob and calls for the bell. Nattie is furious as she never tapped out and Bret Hart begins arguing with Ric Flair. Nattie attacks Charlotte as Bret punches Flair. Both Nattie and Bret lock in the Sharpshooter submission on Charlotte and Flair until they let them go.

- Vince McMahon's The Decision: The Chicago crowd erupt with "CM Punk" chants as Vince arrives and Vince mocks the fans to chant louder. Vince begins to talk about the past RAW's, his favorite era and now the current RAW needs a new leader. Vince calls out Stephanie McMahon to the ring first. Vince says Stephanie is beautiful and the fans are animals for cheering when she was speared at Wrestlemania by Roman Reigns. Stephanie says it's ok cause she doesn't need the fans sympathy. Stephanie says she's a leader and runs down a list of things The Authority have done on RAW. Stephanie reminds Vince that she's been by his side, never ran away like Shane McMahon did and reminds Vince that Shane did lose to The Undertaker. Stephanie says that Vince needs her because she's the smartest, savviest and most experienced leader he can have. Shane's music hits and out comes Shane McMahon. Shane says he doesn't brag about himself like Stephanie, talks about all the major sports channels he was on promoting the company in the past and says Stephanie had nothing to do with all the WWE Network subscribers that she takes credit for. Shane reminds Vince he came back to guarantee a future for his kids, Stephanie's kids and the fans.  Vince makes his official announcement and says both Shane and Stephanie will have equal say on RAW and they need to figure things out. Wrestling Lockup with Brandon: WWE Payback Preview #WWEPayback

By Brandon Albright, @B_Rock1978

Wrestling Lockup with Brandon, brought to you by Triple Threat CLE, brings you the WWE Payback Preview.

WWE Payback takes place live at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois. This being Payback's fourth year as a WWE pay per view, the WWE have held the event three out of the four years in its existence at the Allstate Arena in Chicago. WWE Payback will also be available on the WWE Network for only $9.99. If you can't catch the show live or on the WWE Network, I'll be bringing you the WWE Payback recap on Monday afternoon.

- "WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match": Roman Reigns (c) vs. AJ Styles: Roman Reigns did what he said he was going to do at Wrestlemania 32, last month. Reigns defeated Triple H to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and began another Roman Empire reign within the WWE. Reigns now has a new attitude as well, as he considers himself not a good guy or a bad guy, he considers himself THE guy in the WWE. AJ Styles has made quite an impact in the WWE since arriving in January. Styles, however, is coming off of a loss against Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania 32. Styles didn't let that loss on the biggest stage in sports entertainment bring him down though. Styles would go on to defeat Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens and Cesaro in a fatal four way match to earn the right to face Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Will the Roman Empire continue to reign over the WWE and defeat what many call another independent wrestling darling? Will the former multi TNA World Heavyweight Champion, AJ Styles, cause the fall of the Empire and walk out with the world title?

- "WWE Intercontinental Championship Match": The Miz (c) w/Maryse vs. Cesaro: The RAW after Wrestlemania, Miz defeated Zack Ryder to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship and added more gold to his Hollywood movie star gimmick. Not only did he win back the IC-Title, but Miz's wife, Maryse, also returned to the WWE and helped her husband take home the gold to their Hollywood mansion. On that same RAW, the Swiss Superman, Cesaro, returned to action after being out with an injury. Cesaro came up short that night in a WWE World Heavyweight Championship #1 Contenders Match. The following week on RAW, Cesaro went on to defeat Kevin Owens in another #1 Contenders Match, this time with the winner getting a shot at The Miz and the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Will The Miz defeat Cesaro and continue living the Hollywood lifestyle as a champion? Or will Cesaro shatter The Miz's Hollywood dream of being a champion?

- "WWE United States Championship Match": Kalisto (c) vs. Ryback: For the second pay per view in a row the WWE United States Championship has been put on the card, but will be the Pre-Show filler match. Last month at Wrestlemania 32, Kalisto was successful in defending his WWE United States Championship against Ryback. Can the "little guy", Kalisto, pull out another victory on a much bigger and stronger opponent? Will the "big guy", Ryback, who's only worried about himself now, defeat Kalisto and win his first WWE United States Championship?

- "WWE Women's Championship Match": Charlotte (c) w/Ric Flair vs. Nattie Neidhart w/Bret Hart: Charlotte walked out of Wrestlemania 32 with a win over Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch and was crowned the new WWE Women's Champion. The next night on RAW, Charlotte was rewarded her new championship and was immediately challenged by Nattie Neidhart, who vowed to teach some discipline to Charlotte and change Charlotte's horrible attitude. Nattie defeated Charlotte in a WWE Women's Championship Match on RAW, however, it was by DQ, thanks to Charlotte's dad, Ric Flair, getting involved. Both ladies meet again at WWE Payback with the WWE Women's Championship on the line. Can Charlotte continue her cheating ways like her father has taught her and retain the title? Can Nattie finally prove to Charlotte that cheaters never win and take home the gold?

- Chris Jericho vs. Dean Ambrose: This feud has actually been almost a year long build up. Back at Night Of Champions in June of 2015, Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and mystery partner, Chris Jericho, teamed up to battle The Wyatt Family. Jericho ended up taking the pinfall loss to The Wyatts, after letting his ego and the spotlight get in his way. Ambrose immediately told Reigns about how stupid it was to rely on Jericho to team with them. Cooler heads prevailed and nothing more happened between the two. That all changed this past month as Jericho now has a new attitude and demands the respect from the fans that he feels he rightfully deserves. Dean Ambrose, not liking Jericho or his attitude has stepped up to try to finally finish what he wanted to finish back in June. Ambrose has become a thorn in Jericho's side, by targeting Y2J and has even sabotaged Jericho's Highlight Reel talk show and turned it into the Ambrose Asylum talk show. Who will prevail when the self proclaimed best in the world meets the WWE's resident lunatic?

- Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn: Owens and Zayn have had a huge history with each other that just didn't start in the WWE. Owens and Zayn have been good friends and better enemies leading all the way back to their independent wrestling days and NXT days. Owens and Zayn have been PWG and ROH World Tag Team Champions together in the independent wrestling scene and have feuded with each other over the NXT World Title last year. Now that Zayn has been called up to the main WWE roster, Owens' anger and jealousy for Zayn has emerged again. Owens looks to end Zayn's career once and for all and forget about their friendship they once had. Zayn looks to stop Owens and bring him back down to reality.

- Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin: Former NXT superstar Baron Corbin made his main roster debut at Wrestlemania 32 and went on to win the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. Corbin then showed up on RAW and has been on a warpath, warning everyone that End Of Days are coming. Corbin immediately targeted Dolph Ziggler as his first victim and laid Ziggler out. Ziggler seeking revenge, attacked Corbin from behind and brawled with the newcomer, setting up their match at Payback. Can Ziggler stop the End Of Days that Corbin is threatening to bring to the WWE? Will Corbin make Ziggler his first of many victims in the WWE?

- "#1 Contenders Match, For The WWE World Tag Team Championship": Enzo and Big Cass vs. The Vaudevillains: Both former NXT tag teams made their respected debuts on RAW and SmackDown this month and immediately made an impact. Both teams entered into the WWE World Tag Team Championship #1 Contenders Tournament and both made it to the finals. Can Enzo and Big Cass, who have an enormous following from the WWE Universe, which goes along with Enzo's enormous ability to talk trash, walk out the new number one contenders? Will the former NXT World Tag Team Champions and believers in the old style of wrestling, The Vaudevillains, come out victorious?
