What's up wrestling fans, it's the hottest ticket of the summer, it's WWE SummerSlam 2017! This year's event for the third year in a row takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and it will be live on the WWE Network. Let's check out the matches that are in store for us this year.
- "WWE Universal Championship, Fatal Four Way Match": Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe vs. Braun Strowman: RAW GM Kurt Angle was set to announce the number one contender to the WWE Universal Championship, when he was interrupted by Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe. Both men demanded to be named the #1 Contender for WWE SummerSlam. A match between the two was announced with the winner facing Brock Lesnar, however, Braun Strowman interrupted the match and there was no winner. Strowman then demanded to be given a title shot as well, which gave Angle the idea to announce that Reigns, Joe and Strowman would all face Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship at WWE SummerSlam in a Fatal Four Way Match. Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman confronted Angle after the announcement and warned Angle that if Lesnar didn't leave WWE SummerSlam still the champion, than Lesnar planned on walking out of the WWE. Will Brock Lesnar retain his title against three other men? Will we see either Reigns, Joe or Strowman crowned the new champion and the exit of Lesnar??
- "WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match": Jinder Mahal (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura: After defeating Randy Orton at WWE Battleground, Jinder Mahal demanded a new opponent for WWE SummerSlam. John Cena answered the challenge at first, however, Smackdown Live GM Daniel Bryan decided to make a #1 Contenders Match between Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura to determine Mahal's next challenger. Nakamura battled Cena the following week and defeated Cena clean to become the new #1 Contender. Will Shinsuke Nakamura leave WWE SummerSlam the new champion? Will Jinder Mahal survive the King of Strong Style and retain his title??
- "WWE United States Championship Match": AJ Styles (c) vs. Kevin Owens, with Shane McMahon as Special Guest Referee: Last month at WWE Battleground, Kevin Owens defeated AJ Styles to win the WWE United States Championship. The next Smackdown Live, however, saw AJ Styles win back the title, defeating Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho in a Triple Threat Match. Owens would get another rematch with Styles and was defeated again, however, Owens' shoulders were up which should've voided the pinfall. Owens confronted Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan, complained about the referees and demanded another rematch against Styles. Shane gave Owens his rematch against Styles for the WWE United States Championship at WWE SummerSlam and also appointed himself as the special guest referee. Shane promised both Styles and Owens that he'd call the match right down the middle, but he won't be afraid to step in if illegal activity were to take place.
- "WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match": Akira Tozawa (c) vs. Neville: Last month at WWE Great Balls of Fire, Neville defeated Akira Tozawa to retain the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Tozawa suffered a minor shoulder injury during his feud with Ariya Daivari to determine a new #1 Contender for Neville's next opponent. Tozawa also began having issues with Titus O'Neil not wanting Tozawa to wrestle due to his injury. Tozawa was able to bounce back from his injury, appeared to smooth things over with Titus and then defeated Daivari to become the new #1 Contender against Neville at WWE SummerSlam. One week before WWE SummerSlam, Tozawa got his title shot early and defeated Neville to win the title. Neville immediately demanded his rematch at WWE SummerSlam.
- "WWE RAW Women's Championship Match": Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Sasha Banks: With Bayley and Sasha Banks both having victories over Alexa Bliss, both ladies demanded a title shot. RAW GM Kurt Angle announced Bayley vs. Sasha in a #1 Contenders Match to decide who would face Alexa. Bayley went on to defeat Sasha and become the new #1 Contender to the title. Two weeks before WWE SummerSlam, Bayley injured her shoulder in a match against Nia Jax and was forced to drop out of her title match. One week before WWE SummerSlam, Sasha Banks battled Nia Jax to crown a new #1 Contender to the title, after both ladies won the rights to the match a week earlier. Sasha made Nia tap out to the Banks Statement submission and earned her shot to battle Alexa Bliss for the WWE RAW Women's Championship.
- "WWE Smackdown Live Women's Championship Match": Naomi (c) vs. Nattie Neidhart: Last month, Smackdown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon announced a Fatal Five Way Elimination Match at WWE Battleground, which saw Nattie Neidhart come out victorious and the new #1 Contender. Nattie Neidhart confronted Naomi after the win and accused Naomi of turning the WWE Smackdown Live Women's Championship into a toy and Nattie planned to take it and make it respectable again. Nattie would then go on to warn Ms. Money In The Bank Carmella to not interfere in her WWE SummerSlam match against Naomi. Carmella wished Nattie luck and stated that she hoped Nattie won so Carmella could cash in her briefcase on her.
- "WWE RAW World Tag Team Championship Match": Sheamus and Cesaro (c) vs. Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins: Throughout the month of July and August, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins showed signs of possibly getting back together. Ambrose, however, was still having trust issues, remembering how Rollins turned on The Shield in the past. Rollins assured Ambrose that it was all in the past and he wasn't that guy anymore. Ambrose and Rollins still had trust issues with each other that resulted in them getting into a brawl. Sheamus and Cesaro picked their spot and jumped Ambrose and Rollins during the brawl and beat them down. Ambrose and Rollins fought back, chased off Sheamus and Cesaro and officially joined back together with The Shield fist bump. RAW GM Kurt Angle announced that Sheamus and Cesaro would defend their titles against Ambrose and Rollins at WWE SummerSlam.
- "WWE Smackdown Live World Tag Team Championship Match": The New Day (c) vs. The Usos: Last month at WWE Battleground, The New Day defeated The Usos to win the tag team titles. The Usos attacked The New Day from behind and beat them down on the Smackdown Live edition two days after the pay per view. The Usos got their rematch against The New Day set for WWE SummerSlam and guaranteed that the tag team titles were coming home with them again. The New Day got a little bit of revenge, as they attacked The Usos from behind a week before WWE SummerSlam. Will The Usos hold true to their word and win the tag team titles? Will The New Day continue to reign as the tag team champions after its all said and done??
- Bray Wyatt vs. "The Demon King" Finn Balor: Bray Wyatt began stalking Finn Balor while Balor was involved in a feud with Elias Samson. Bray would even cost Balor his No DQ Match against Samson, by giving Balor a Sister Abigail. Balor seeked a little bit of revenge by attacking Bray during one of Bray's in ring promos. Bray would again return the favor, attacking Balor during one of his promos. Balor vs. Bray was made official for WWE SummerSlam by RAW GM Kurt Angle. One week before WWE SummerSlam another confrontation between Balor and Bray took place, angering Kurt Angle and forcing him to announce that their match would happen right there at RAW. Bray went on to defeat Balor on RAW and then pour a bucket of blood all over Balor. Balor got Kurt Angle to give him a rematch with Bray at WWE SummerSlam, where Balor promised to bring his Demon King gimmick to handle his issues with Bray.
- Rusev vs. Randy Orton: Three weeks before WWE SummerSlam, Rusev made a complaint that he was yet to be included on the card and then threw out an open challenge to anyone to fight him there. Randy Orton appeared, accepted Rusev's challenge and then laid Rusev out with an RKO. Rusev would get his revenge on Orton a week later and attack Orton after his non title match against Jinder Mahal. Smackdown Live GM Daniel Bryan officially made the match a go for WWE SummerSlam.
- Big Cass vs. Big Show, With Enzo Suspended Above The Ring In A Shark Cage: Cass has been gloating about his victories over Enzo and how he's been able to dominate Big Show. Big Show confronted Big Cass twice, Big Show dominating the first exchange and Cass dominating the second. Cass defeated Enzo in a rematch and then laid out Big Show when he tried to make the save. Cass would battle Big Show one on one, but it ended in a DQ, when Enzo attacked Cass. RAW GM Kurt Angle announced that Big Show would battle Big Cass at WWE SummerSlam, but the only way Cass would agree to it was if Angle did something to keep out Enzo. Angle announced that Enzo would be locked in a shark cage and suspended above the ring during the match. One week before WWE SummerSlam, Cass, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson all attacked Enzo and Big Show. The trio, knocked out Enzo and then proceeded to break Big Show's hand by slamming it in the shark cage door way.
- John Cena vs. Baron Corbin: Baron Corbin attacked Shinsuke Nakamura from behind after Nakamura defeated Cena in a #1 Contenders Match. Cena made the save and put Corbin through the announcers table with an AA. The following week Smackdown Live GM Daniel Bryan announced Cena vs. Corbin at WWE SummerSlam. One week before WWE SummerSlam, Corbin attacks Cena from behind during his non title match against Jinder Mahal. Corbin ended up cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcase on Mahal afterwards. Cena distracts Corbin long enough to allow Mahal to steal the rollup pinfall on Corbin to retain the title and ruin Corbin's chance at winning the title.
- "Six Man Tag Team Match": The Hardy Boys and Jason Jordan vs. The Miztourage: Jason Jordan has had a busy month, as we all learned that he is Kurt Angle's son. Jordan was then a guest on Miz TV and offered a spot to join The Miztourage. Jordan turned Miz down, which sent Miz into mocking Jordan that Angle would just help Jordan anyway. Miz tried attacking Jordan, but got laid out, as did the rest of The Miztourage. One week before WWE SummerSlam, Jordan defeated The Miz by DQ as Jordan was attacked by The Miztourage. The Hardy Boys hit the ring to help Jordan and make the save. It was announced three days before WWE SummerSlam that The Hardy's and Jordan would battle The Miztourage at SummerSlam.
